I've never been for schools paying players, I always wanted it to go this route. If you're popular, then sell merch, do whatever you want top sell your brand. But don't expect the school already giving you a scholarship and amenities to pay you even further just for the hell of it.

Play football overseas?

Why should the NCAA be able to rake in billions off players while punishing them for selling some shoes?

This. It's a simple issue. Keep that can firmly closed.

I feel like this would be a loophole for boosters to pay athletes. What would happen if a booster agreed to pay a high school recruit 20,000 dollars to be in his commercial? I think it would be interesting to see a freshman be in a commercial before playing a down at a school. I’m all for players being payed but imagine having a school like Oregon having players in Nike commercials.

I wish I lived in a world where I was naive enough to believe players didn't get paid under the table.

Ridiculous government interference in a private entity.

Cartels are illegal. The NCAA policy should be too.

Not to mention the fact that the "private" entity includes a lot of government institutions as members.

I hope it passes. It will level the playing field with Alabama.

This is what interest me. Are these students who make money off of their likeness going to still receive scholarships? Or do they have some burden to the university for giving them a platform to receive this compensation? This will be interesting.

Why wouldn't they get scholarships? A school would ve dumb to demand money back. Athletic programs can make over 100 mil a year and you'd risk losing a top prospect over a few bucks?

Plus, the colleges don't create the market for athletes. Just look at the college basketball FBI investigation. Kids are getting $ thrown at them well before college.

Seeing guys like Stephen Ross, Phil Knight, and Kevin Plank bidding against each other over high school kids would be awesome.

Why I've supported this for a long time is it changes zilch about the current structure.

Players just can get extra $ from non-university sources if the market supports it. It's completely market based and requires nothing extra from schools.

If a market's there for a player's likeness, why should we or the NCAA be in the business of trying to squelch it?
the "problem" is that boosters this will give boosters a legal way to funnel money to the players.

This has nothing to do with colleges paying athletes. Profiting from their likeness is a private endeavor.

Of course an LSU or Michigan athlete will get more than a Toledo or Texas St kid, but that is the point. Why should Derek Stingley or Michael Divinity not be able to sign autographs at Price Leblanc Saturday afternoon for $2,500? If it benefits the sponsor and the student athlete it sure seems like free market capitalism to me.

Let's be real. There will be a different payment for Stingley than there will be for Deculus. Merit based is the way to go.
