I am not one to like PI calls on Hail Mary's but tonight was different.

The Refs are undefeated.

There were several offensive and defensive PI fouls on that play just like there always are. Could you imagine if they just kept calling offsetting penalties and replaying the down? It would take forever

Not sure I’ve ever seen pass interference called on a Hail Mary in my life.

Lions beat the Browns once scoring after a Hail Mary PI call.

I think it should be called if a guy has a clear chance to make a catch and gets interfered with. The key is a clear chance to catch the ball and if so the play should be officiated like any other and defenses should be forced to defend without fouling.

I say have replay only if you care about the last play of the game. I’m banned from saints board because PI didn’t occur on last play. Brees got the ball first in OT and stunk it up followed up by the Saints D giving up a “chip shot” 57 yard fg under pressure.

If that was Brady, it's PI.

LSU beat Vandy on a Hail Mary, but it was called back due to offensive pass interference.

Todd Kinchen caught one to beat Vandy and was called for offensive PI...damn we sucked in the 90's

ETA-I should have read all replies first

I remember that play well and yes it was a BS call. Kitchen and defenders were fending each other off going for the ball and Kitchen got separation because he was stronger than the defenders.

This. Pass interference is part of the play. They shouldn’t be calling PI on those plays. Hail Mary should be a very low success rate play. If they started calling PI on them, they would have a much higher success rate

Didn't Jimmy Graham get tagged for OPI on a Hail Mary vs the 49ers several years ago? They'll only call it if there's a really, really blatant push off.

So defenders should just be able to openly tackle, hold down arms, and pull on jerseys of receivers if it's a long throw? There has to be some order in place.

This makes no sense. Its called a Hail Mary as slang but its actually a deep pass play. On any pass play if the defender interferes with receiver it should be called.

Why should the last pass play have less value than the first one of game or all those in between? If we decide not to call fouls on last play then why even have last plays?

I don’t understand this thinking “we’ll just let boys be boys” on last play when it should have as mich value as any other play in the game. Allowing all this interfering when all game you didn’t, just means the NFL doesn’t value all plays in game. And once you realize they can pick and choose when to call fouls - then the rest of game prior to last pass is suspect too.

Stop listening to Ott and Henagrift break this down

it't next to impossible to spot all the holding and interfering on a hail mary
the officials would have to go to replay to catch it
i'm sure the players are coached to grab and do whatever you can in that situation and pray the refs don't see it

Yes some Bills defenders committed penalties. However, if you watch, you can see the Bucs wide receivers also grabbing and slinging bills defenders

It would be constant offsetting penalties .

I guess this isn’t offensive PI
