Releasing the club is a gradual process, not a sudden flip at impact. From the point where your hands are at your even with your hip on the downswing, until the right arm is fully extended after impact and the right wrist is straight - that entire time the right wrist is losing its bend that it had at the top and is slowing straightening. But the right wrist should certainly be bent at impact (and the left wrist should be flat or even arched).

BTW I can "release the golf club" like a freaking champ and hit a 50 yard slice, if I wanted to ...

can you not release the club and hit a 50 yard hook?

Try bowling. It's damn near impossible to lose your ball. In fact, it comes right back to you

I really struggle with my driver.
Always have.
I bought a r11s 3 wood last week.. Hit 2 bucket o balls with it and killing it. I may never hit driver again.
I'm the worst 4 hdcp driver known to golf.
I can not get that sob to draw over... Very inconsistent never same miss.

It was standard neutral when I got it... I didn't f with it.
Solid golf club.
Didn't have much time when I was at range... Maybe not 290 but that sob is long

I don't believe in practicing or lessons. You're never gonna be a pro. My method is simple. Slow coiling back swing and then hit the crap out of the ball. Doesn't matter where it goes as long as it goes 300 yards somewhere. That's the joy of not caring.

I'm seriously close to getting myself a 3 wood. I used to slice a lot a few years ago, but after trying a lot of different drills I have gotten rid of it. Still struggle at times with accuracy off the tee, so I'm looking for something like that to give me some good distance and better precision on the tight fairways.

It's called releasing the club with your body. But good luck to anyone trying to roll their wrists at impact

my god this is beyond false...just google image "releasing the golf club"

True.

The wrists DO roll. But to exaggerate that rolls smells of snap hook to me.

Lessons are the only answer. Be prepared to hit the ball worse than you ever thought though. For a little while. They are very frustrating but walking away they are helpful.

There was a golf gimmick called the "inside approach" watch youtube videos of it and keep it in mind when you swing.

And as always, swing slower. Especially at the range. If the last thought in your head before downswing is "Kill it." You are doing it wrong.

Buy this thing and take it to the range with you. Or if you handy, I've seen people make their own.

I'll be man enough to come back and admit I misused the word average. I made a conscious effort to hit the three wood quite a bit Sunday. Averaged about 260. .... Did get one 295 though. of course downwind down hill tight fairway par 5. . Sorry for all the confusion but it was a fun topic.

As far as the swing thoughts, grip it and rip it!

As you're standing over the ball, look at the ball as though there are four quadrants. On your swing, keep your right elbow in towards your body and concentrate on hitting the lower right quadrant of the ball.

If you keep your elbow too far in, you'll start hooking the ball. Eventually, you'll find the "right" spot and hopefully start hitting a nice draw.

There is some good advice in this thread.

However, not all of it is applicable. Whether it is general swing thoughts or fundamentals, it may not be exactly what you need. Someone needs to take a look at your swing to determine what is best for you. I would give you information, but I would rather it be right information.
