What the frick are you babbling about. It is actually better. You have a shirt with a sponsor or a billboard in the background but you don't stop play every 3 minutes for a 3 minute ad break of pharma and gambling ads, plus the ad reads the announcers have to do in game, plus the starting lineups brought to you by home depot, plus the ad graphics overlays, plus the plugs for their network's other shitty shows, and on and on.
Football is a more exciting game to watch as a sport but the experience of watching a televised football game today is absolute dogshit unless you are totally broken in to watching endless ads. Televised soccer at least allows you to watch the game and follow its rhythm.

With all the reports of CTE and other health issues, parents are not letting their kids play as much, which reduces interest
There’s so many more distractions and things to do and honestly if you’re not gambling on it (fantasy or straight up betting) the nfl regular season is pretty boring, and I’d wager many younger kids aren’t gambling much either because too young or don’t have enough money to waste on it yet

yep, really nothing is mass popular anymore.
“Famous” now means a much different thing that it did 20 years ago and 50 years ago. Everyone has their niches that they follow online in tv, movies, music, and more. Sports is on TV, but TV isn’t the default form of entertainment anymore

Not sure why so many people ignore the access to so many more entertainment options in these discussions.
Growing up, we had 2(sometimes 3) channels. So if you wanted to watch TV, those were your choices. Freshman year, we got the big arse satellite. And I don't think I have seen one second of the CBS station put of Bryan, since then.

Yep, the answer is kids have more options today and football is being seen as the sport of morons who want to damage their brains with hopes of making life altering money. Any smart athletic parent is pushing their kids to baseball - more money and less risk. And when we reach the tipping point for where soccer actually makes money in the U.S. then you’ll see major shifts away from football.

There are shifts away from football already but yes it’ll continue
But in general, there is shifts away from hardcore sports fandom in general. Even among those that do follow sports, it’s seems more through fantasy or social media instead of watching most every game and/or having a single team they support

Going a level higher...kids these days just don't give a shite about anything other than getting their electronics and dopamine fix.
They just float around from one thing to another.
