After seeing the report its obvious they knew and didnt want to overtake in that zone.
I’d wager that all drivers are keenly aware of the DRS checkpoints and it greatly influences their timing of overtakes.

Right, I'm saying that mercedes knew max was giving the spot back. During the race hamilton/mercedes said they didnt know he was giving the spot back.
That brief radio conversation with the stewards says that they did know and were just trying play dumb.

Merc knew for sure. Doubt Hamilton knew for sure.
With his experience I would think he could have deduced what was going on.

Well this is an asinine statement if you have any concern at all for driver safety.
How so, if I’m slowing to let him pass and giving him the racing line and he is delaying, I’m gonna break to get him ahead of me quicker so he’s passed and I can engage DRS.
Not Max’s fault Hamilton was riding his arse to avoid the drs zone to pass.
ETA: now if it was normal racing conditions and Max braked to cause a wreck, that’s a different story. He was breaking g to try to force Hamilton to make the move he should have.

As far as the F2 race this morning Pourchaire seems to be fine, no major issues.
Enzo Fittipaldi has a fractured heel, but otherwise seems to be in good shape.
Great outcome considering how bad that looked originally.

Good points. How do you see Abu Dhabi going? Seems like it’s Hamilton’s to lose at this point. Probably 60/40 Hamilton.
If you are handicapping it going into FP1, you have to think Mercedes has the advantage. They are faster on straights and Abu Dhabi has changed config to widen sharper turns 17 thru 20 plus eliminating the chicane in 7 and widening the hairpin there. The changes were done to make the course flow better, create more overtaking and increase speeds which all seem to play to Merc. Max still might be faster on softs, but the race won’t be won on lost on the reds. Red Bull need Checo to become a factor. They can out strategize Mercedes, but it’s hard to do with only one chess piece.

Checo has one job… Bottas Hamilton

He has to out qualify Bottas. Period. Gasly would already have Max a championship if he was in Checo’s car and Marko and Horner have to know that.

How RBR handled Gasly's stint there was one of the biggest screw ups by Marko.

One thing I cant wrap my head around... from on board both Max and Lewis were down shifting. How does Lewis, the best late braker (in the best late braking car) on the grid still make contact? I think both were being "cheeky" but Im still surprised contact was made.

Has to be one of the biggest over reactions of all time.

I'm am laughing my arse off at all the butthurt max fluffers in this thread. Y'all realize Hamilton had better pace all night right? Remove all the bullshite and Ham still passes him sometime in the final 10 laps or so.
Max's only chance at winning tonight was to either crash into hamilton or force hamilton to crash into someone/something else.

This is hard to watch if you’re a max fan. Hamilton is just plain faster right now. It doesn’t even matter where they qualify. Hamilton’s passing cars like they’re stationary.

This race was crazy. Really weird.

Okay for once FIA did a pretty good job of explaining why they are giving Max a 10-second penaly for brake checking Lewis and why they didn't penalize Lewis for running into the back of Max.

Not exactly.

"Whilst accepting that the driver of Car 44 could have overtaken Car 33 when that car first slowed, we understand why he (and the driver of Car 33) did not wish to be the first to cross the DRS [line]. However, the sudden braking by the driver of Car 33 was determined by the Stewards to be erratic and hence the predominant cause of the collision and hence the standard penalty of 10 seconds for this type of incident, is imposed.

I just have one question:
What are the engine modes in Max's and Ham's cars going to be set to when they run around Yas Marina?

I want Max to win this as much as the next guy and hate the hell out of Lewis but if Max did indeed jam the brakes on the straight then yes he’s at fault. That doesn’t mean that his intention was to get Lewis to run into him as he might not even have realized Lewis was so close behind.
I also don’t buy that Lewis wasn’t expecting Max to give the place back. Sure his radio guy, who’s sucked all weekend, may not have told him but Lewis would’ve known that Max possibly would need to give the spot back. So he arrives on scene to his rival going slowly and his first instinct is to just settle in behind him also going slowly? That goes against every instinct of a racing driver, Lewis didn’t want to pass there because he knew he’d get nipped by DRS. So I think he bears atleast a small bit of fault.
Also, does this now set the weird precedent that a driver needing to give a spot back can do so wherever he likes but the driver behind doesn’t necessarily have to take it back at that spot if he doesn’t want?
