The season goes from mid-March to mid-December. As much as I personally hate the midseason break, they deserve a midseason break.

Hamilton starting stirring the rumor shite pot

Soooo....to summarize all the rumors I've been seeing everywhere...
Russell to Merc
Bottas to Alfa
Kimi retiring
Gio out and de Vries in at Alfa
Albon to Williams
Sounds like Alfa wants to delay any announcements until Monza but that doesn't really mean Merc has to wait to announce Russell.
Anyone seeing anything else?

F1 released statement that they are looking to compensate the fans who had purchased tickets to that train wreck.
I'd bet it will be 50% off 2022 tickets.

Kimi just officially announced he'll be retiring at the end of 2021.

So now the dominos can begin to fall

If Gio was out I figured Mick would move to Alfa. Would think Alfa would like some continuity keeping Gio for at least 1 more year.

Yeah, that's the announcement I thought they wanted to wait on...but now, they can announce that they are bringing in Bottas which means Merc HAS to bring up Russell. They have no choice. Its not their fault!

Bottas got a nice little parting gift from AMG a few days ago...

I don't know a whole lot about Gio, he's just kinda there for the most part.
But I did appreciate him diving into the pits on the formation lap in Hungary, saying "WE GAMBLE" into the radio to order the switch to slicks. It was a savvy move and ended up being the right call.

Where does bottas end up? Or does he just drive his badass new car to Indy or retirement?
Posted on 9/2/21 at 12:28 pm to J Murdah
Got to be be alfa. I cant imagine williams parting with latifi money. He also hasnt been bad driving that car.

Bottas to Alfa, Russell to Merc, and Albon to Williams seems like a near lock. There could be a surprise with the Williams seat, but I'm pretty confident that's how it will go down.

I think this is the right answer

In the latest development of the RBR/Merc saga... RBR asks FIA to look into Merc's engine sensors
the-race.com
quote:
The competitive niggle between Formula 1 title rivals Red Bull and Mercedes appears to be continuing as Red Bull has made a query to the FIA regarding the sensors of the Mercedes power unit which record the engine’s inlet plenum temperatures
quote:
The lower the temperature, the more dense the oxygen content and the greater the combustion will be. By regulation, the plenum air temperature must be at least 10-deg above the external ambient temperature (as an average over the lap) and the FIA sensors track this to ensure compliance.
quote:
The Mercedes inlet plenum is believed to have walls that can be filled with super-cooled liquid.

Ah, the time-honored tradition of finding the unfair advantage, and competitors who "didn't think of that" bitching about it.
My favorite crude version story of the unfair advantage is Roger Penske dipping one of his Trans-Am car bodies in acid to reduce weight, and then switching numbers on his cars so that his other, legal car got sent to scrutineering twice.
My favorite sophisticated version story of the unfair advantage is Toyota's sly modification that passed scrutineering many times but gave them a significant horsepower advantage:

But on to Zandvoort.
It's going to be quite a spectacle with the enthusiastic orange crowds roaring their support for Max, and they will surely give the loudest boos ever heard to Hamilton.
Does anyone believe the race itself is going to be anything but a Hungary-style parade? (notwithstanding the most recent Hungarian GP
) From racing it in sims I can tell it's a super fun track to drive, but it's an old-school narrow track that's not really suited to modern F1.
However, the new banked last corner will make passing at the end of the front straight easier, so the fast cars will go forward even if a mishap or grid penalty sends them to the back of the field.
The last corner has banking that's twice as steep as Indianapolis (where the F1 cars took Turn 1 backwards) so setup is going to be interesting. It will be fun to watch these modern cars on an old track, but I think the only action will be at Turn 1.
