Somehow he stayed out of trouble at Mizzou but this is the play I always think of when he's mentioned.

Fastest player in NFL history to 30 sacks IIRC. RIP to a GOAT.

There may be some context clues below to explain what might have happened to this hero.
quote:

Smith's rapid ascent to NFL stardom was slowed by a series of off-field issues that included 10 arrests in nine years. That included an arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in Miami in 2012, another on the same charge in San Jose in 2013 in which he crashed his car into a tree and an arrest for three felony charges of possessing illegal assault weapons in October 2013.

The NFL suspended Smith for nine games in 2014 for violation of the league's personal conduct and substance abuse policies. On. Aug. 7, 2015, the 49ers released Smith after a third DUI-related arrest. His release came the day after he was arrested on hit-and-run, DUI and vandalism charges.

Smith signed with the Raiders in September 2015, but the league suspended him for a year in November 2015 for again violating the league's substance abuse policy.

He should have been so much more in the NFL. Him and Justin Smith on the same side was a terrifying combo.

That might be his wildest story. He had been suspended and out of the league for multiple years when the Cowboys signed him on a one year deal as a reclamation project.

It worked out for him. He showed some flashes and stayed out of trouble, resulting in several teams courting him as a free agent. He signed with the Seahawks.

Less than 36 hours later he was choking out a customer in a Chalmette coffee shop. Why was he in Chalmette? No one could answer that question. No one even knew he was in Chalmette until he was arrested.

He had so much potential. He had 31 sacks his first two seasons, and averaged 1 sack/gm in first three seasons.

He grew up in my hometown. I met him a few times as we have mutual friends... He was a good guy that just could never get it together in terms of personal stuff. He really wasn't even that good in football until his late high school years and then he became a beast at Mizzou. I really wish this wasn't the way his story ended. RIP.

I see this statement over and over again and for the life of me, I have no idea what you mean. in terms of personal stuff. like, life? stop treating these people like zoo animals who have no agency

He was in just about every kind of trouble there was. Weapons, domestic abuse, multiple DUIs, drug addiction

And he was punished very minimally for all of it, especially the DUI. Looking at his Wiki page, he was involved in at least SIX situations where he was suspected of DUI

Sadly to say, but him not being here probably will save innocent lives that he inevitably would have destroyed with his idiocy.

Dude kept driving under the influence. I’m just glad he didn’t kill someone while still alive

The ol’ he didn’t punch me in the face the time I interacted with him so you’re a dick if you think he was a problem post.

Classic.

Oh wow, sorry you think that he's your friend just because you met him once.
