The NHL is much less tolerant of fighting in the postseason. Gotta watch a regular season game to see good fights. Preferably between teams that hate each other.

If fighting is taken out of hockey, a lot more people will get hurt.

I'm a long time hockey fan. Been watching regularly since 1991 when iwas living in so cal and the kings got Gretzky. I understand fighting has been a historical part of the game. But it's time to rein that bs in. I think it is a detriment to the actual game of hockey which IMO is second only to football.

Did the OP ever see old school hockey before they changed some of the rules in 2005?

Go read this Wiki page's segment called On-ice incidents resulting in charges

thats all neat and everything.. but wait until some ex players get a lawyer and file a lawsuit against the NHL related to fighting, or MLB related to tolerating hit batters and take out slides, like the NFL is dealing with on the concussion issue.. tradition wont mean shite..

Football and hockey are violent games. Fighting is a long tradition in hockey, people just need to get used to it.

That's the problem. Fighting gets ratings and is what draws new fans to the sport. But it's fighting, not hockey. The game is beautiful, you don't need the extracurricular bs.

If you don't know that fighting is part of the game, then just STFU.

+1000000

Hockey =/= football... this has nothing to do w/ the Aints and is not comparable at all, IMHO.

It was in response to DBG's complaints about how unfair it was that the Saints bounty was investigated when such a violent thing can happen in hockey. See how it wasn't in response to you? That means it wasn't addressing anything you said. You seem slow but we're gonna' get through this together.

I disagree. The best fights I've ever seen were in the playoffs.

Your right, I'm a slow mind reader.

NHL playoffs are the best postseason of any sport IMO. If they cut out fighting, more dudes will go upside star players heads with their sticks. Enforcers protect the goal scorers.

categorically false, teams themselves don't want to risk an extra two minutes for instigation therefore there is either a blowout occurring or shits been agreed upon with a nod or or a gesture between the two players...fighting is as old as the game and a good tune up prevents dirty shite from happening...

Hooray for false equivalencies! Are you saying hockey isn't cracking down on head shots and concussions. The league suspended one of their marquee players (Ovechkin) for leaving his feet on a check that hit a guy in a shoulder... close enough - 3 games.

You target the head, especially near the boards, you are getting suspended. Same with knee on knee checks. It's the open ice stuff that is the real risk to players, and the NHL has moved to stop it (though Shanahan has started to use the Wheel O Justice, and the non-suspension on Weber is inexcusable).

But fighting? Who gets a concussion from fighting (unless you're getting punched by Matt Cooke)? There's a certain code to fighting and it doesn't result in nearly as many injuries as stick fouls. I'm not the biggest fan of fighting, but like all hockey fans, I do love it when two "heavyweights" square off. Hell, Mrs. Baloo still loves talking about Fistric vs. Iginla.

I don't like "pre-ordained" fights or crap that happens on the first shift that was obviously for show. But when that punk arse Rene Borque elbowed Backstrom in the head, putting him in the hospital and causing him to miss 40 games... well, I was pretty happy to see the Caps dress Erskine so he could punch that bastard in the head. Though Hendricks beat him to it. Hell, Borque even won the fight. But it showed the team was willing to stand up for their stars.
