Is Cumbie still around solely to save funds to leave CUSA early?

Because they just paid off Skip's buyout and didn't want to be paying for 2 at the same time. Cumbie would've cost another 2 million if fired last year.

Here’s the thing….people in Lafayette don’t even say “Louisiana”. They just say UL. This is dumb

Cumbie really is a good guy, and emphasizes “team” and “family” as much as possible. I think it was a lot to handle head coaching, offensive play calling, QB coaching, etc during the week and during the game. The modern game can be complex for one person to deal with all that, unless you have a hidden talent pool of assistants.

What gets lost is how difficult it can be to coach a team at a school this size in this crazy climate. Any semblance of success is short lived as it’s gone once the season ends. These rosters/coaching staffs at mid-majors get gutted yearly. Not unique, nor an excuse. Just tough to stay consistent. It’s why the good coaches make stupid money.

I’m hearing that Franklin has the offense running fast this season. Should see some more points scored this year offensively.

Sonnie got some incredibly bad breaks last year as well. Tech should have easily won 8-9 games

Bad breaks! Clearly you didn't watch all of the games.

What do you call losing to FIU after running the same 4 plays from the half yard line and not getting in.

Tulsa was bottom barrel and still out played Tech.

Dude doesn't even sniff 3 wins in Sunbelt.

To say bad breaks is clearly not understanding just how bad conference USA football is.

I also was there for the Jax St game.

HELLO, I was maybe the only fan that has watched every game up to that game. That hail Mary wasn't lucky at all.

It was going to happen because if you'd had actually watched the FIU game then you would've known that Sonny has the awareness of a dead fish.

You are correct that tech could've won 8 games. But no they have the head coach with the worst awareness in FBS.

Sunbelt rivalries be dammed, SONNY, lacks any awareness and people refuse to show up if he is there.

If you would venture out and read what parents are saying about him, you'd be pissed.

Seems he didn't learn from being jerk to BC.

If he wins 7 games this season forget any type of crowd for next year outside of the ULM and ULL games.

If Sonny is coaching vs ULM. I wouldn't put any money on tech. Smart bet would be to bet on ULM. Way better coaching staff.

Eric Wood bid against himself. There's a reason he left in a hurry. No sane person wants to be tied to Sonny.

No one has ever debated that.

Just like it’s Louisiana State University & Agricultural & Mechanical College.

Louisiana for athletics, just the same as LSU for athletics.

Maybe if you read the on3 boards you would have a different opinion of Sonny.

A few parents posted.

They truly wanted to stay in Ruston but the coaching staff is that toxic.

Why do you think Landry Liddy and Hank left?

Why do you think pocket passers just up and left. Zero awareness and pissing people off.

What if LaTech pulls a USM and steals ULM’s coaching staff?

I’m not saying your lying, but I haven’t heard that personally and there’s always two sides to stories like these

Lincoln Parish has grown a whopping 7 thousand people in 35 years - not a good indicator for Tech

Plus, feeder Shreveport is one of the saddest demographic stories in America

ULM's endowment is on the level of Junior Sample and Lulu from Heehaw - ULM is toast and should explore the "non scholarship 1-AA level" for football, which I think would keep them able to get lucky and grab lighting in a bottle on the big time level in basketball or baseball or something

Yes, WKU and Arkansas State are growing way faster to overtake Tech in the coming years

I know Tech has Davison, but he needs help and I'm guessing maybe someone can name some Tech engineering grad groups who could assist Davison with surviving the future

7k population growth in 35 years? That's the Parish, not just Ruston

you think that competes against other G-5's around the country?

La Monroe should have been shoved back down to 1-AA 6-8 years ago - Tech competing against them is not the measuring stick

Sonny sucks but I think it’s telling thag of the two parents who publicly ripped the coaching staff, one is still on the team despite opportunities to leave and the other is on about his 20th school in 4 years.
