They do; that’s why we’re playing Thursday night games.

Why? They have all these great women’s sports to cover

You just answered your own question. Women's basketball on TV beats the piss out of college baseball in the ratings.

Last Sunday, Fox had bowling, soccer, and pickleball. I would have thanked God for a college baseball game

SEC Network definitely should. I would tune into a weekly show with highlights and analysis of SEC baseball.

It is all about money.

MLB wants too much money for their product. With each team playing 162 games a year to half empty stadiums and paying players now with some half a billion dollar contracts, MLB needs all the money they can muster and if that includes squeezing a few extra dollars from ESPN and other sports networks they will try. And I think ESPN, excuse the pun, is playing hard ball on its Sunday game obligations. They don’t want it anymore. They opted out of their contract to continue coverage of MLB. Now ESPN’s contract will end at the end of this year.

I wonder how much of this has to do with streaming. I remember early on MLB and heck the NFL too was scared of streaming anything with the sport. I can remember when local stations would cut away from sports segments when they were live streaming newscasts not to violate MLB or NFL rules. With ESPN trying to go all streaming at some point, how would that change its contracts with its sports partners now that cable is withering on the vine.

I know now MLB is venturing into streaming deals. I think Apple+ has Friday games and Roku has a few Sunday afternoon games.

They do and it gets zero viewers even the CWS

Women's basketball and softball easily outdraw it

I don’t understand why people need a favorite sport of their’s to be “relevant”

Do you really need Kendrick Perkins and Pat McAfee talking about LSU v Tennessee in Hoover?

Nah. It’s low level baseball. The best young players are in the minors

Why.. bc you like it?

Ratings don’t lie… don’t you think if people watched it, or they could sell ads for it, they would?

ESPN can make people care about any sport they wish.

They chose to make people care about women’s basketball which is perhaps the worst sport on the planet.

If ESPN had covered college baseball the way they covered women’s basketball 10 years ago, college baseball would be significantly bigger today than it is. More big name kids would forego the MLB draft for favor of playing in college and getting ESPN exposure immediately.

Now with NIL, it wouldn’t shock me to see lots more big time HS prospects (think top 4-10 round guys) finding their way to college.
