ESPN Films today announced that production has started on a 30 for 30 documentary that will take viewers inside the world of one of the most notorious football teams to ever play the game. No team in NFL history has boasted, bullied or brandished as much bravado as the 2000-2001 Baltimore Ravens. The rest of the NFL hated the Ravens but no one could say a thing, because they couldn’t beat them on the field, especially facing, arguably, the greatest defense ever. Luckily for sports fans, their full-throated reign coincided perfectly with the rise of the “reality television” era via Hard Knocks.

I don’t really remember anyone other than Cleveland fans hating the Ravens. People hated Ray Lewis because he probably killed a guy a year earlier and definitely tried to snitch on his buddies. The rest of the Ravens were not controversial and I was glad to see them win.

Seems like a weird team to do a documentary on. They’d be average-below average on a “most intriguing Super Bowl champs” list imo.

Uhh…no. 72 Dolphins, 90’s Cowboys, 70’s Steelers, etc.

I’m down with a documentary on this team, as they sort of flew under the radar that season.

It’s funny how anytime a 30/30 comes out, the team or player of focus was the goat, top badass, most underrated ever, etc. The U documentary went with that, and it worked, but you can’t ride that story line for everything else.

Exactly, the 85 Bears would have wiped the floor clean with the Ravens.

What about every single Raiders team from about 1966 to 1984?

nah, their defense was no doubt suffocating, but the offense was a shitshow.

in a five-game stretch when Tony Banks was still the starting QB, they averaged 8.4 points a game.

i remember Shannon Sharpe though have two long TD catches in their playoff run and thinking the game was in the bag after both.

the one against Oakland came early and it was almost a length of the field TD.

But I think you'd have to say the '85 Bears were better as a team and by a good margin.

That Bears offense was pretty good when Jim McMahon was healthy.

i mean as far as bullying teams anyway.

And the Bears shockingly didn't repeat in '86 because McMahon got hurt.

The offense still ranked 13th in the league with Mike Tomczak, Steve Fuller and Doug Flutie filling in thanks to Walter Payton.

The Bears’ defense became the third defense in the history of the NFL to lead the league in fewest points allowed and fewest total yards allowed for two consecutive seasons.

But scored only 13 points in their playoff loss.
