The majority of the top 10 didn’t even make the cut. Rickie shot an 84 today. These results were not predictable, at all

It was predictable in the sense that guys who historically play well in these conditions are rising to the top. Sometimes shite like yesterday just happens where the morning groups have great conditions while the afternoon is difficult.

For reference, Erin Hills was deemed too easy last year, yet 8 of the top 12 missed the cut, including numbers 1-3.

I don't know why anyone would care if the pros are having fun, it's a job to them. You hit a bad shot, you make a bogey. It's much better than seeing some pro hit a snap hook and have the same chance to hit a good approach as the guy that drove it down the middle. This is much more of a thinking man's tournament. It's great to see when guy are out of position be penalized. For example, I believe it was on hole 10 the other day, Tiger was in the right rough. Most tour events, there is no rough penalty. From inside of 150, Tigers goal was it hit it in the bunker and try and get it up and down from there. I of course enjoy watching them play the par 33 back 9 at Augusta every year on Sunday and whey just bomb it and hit at every flag. But, this is a great change of pace 1 time a year where you have to really really think.

I agree with this. Most of the top 10 were out after Friday when the course wasn’t deemed “unfair”. The conditions did change Saturday morning vs afternoon. But the guys who got the morning Thursday and afternoon Friday also got a different course than the other half. Something around even par, plus or minus 4 or 5 is where the us open champ should be. Imo

Erin Hills was only deemed easy because people are idiot

If they arbitrarily made it par 70 like most us open courses only 11 players were under par for the tournament with the winner being only -8

The greens yesterday reminded me of BREC courses with how little moisture and how bumpy they were.

I get a kick out of people being happy pros have bad scores. It’s like putting 13 people on defense and being happy Drew Brees threw 5 interceptions.

So hey, UDGA, dont be dumb fricks on Saturday! The wind predictions were accurate and you morons tried to be cute

I was at yesterday’s round and felt the wind picking up around 1:30. It was very noticeable. The greens also undulate to a large degree that you can never see on TV. In the end, I think it was made to be to hard, beginning In round one but only to a small degree. Ideally, I want the US Open winner to come in -5 or less. About 5 players to finish between the winner and level par. It should be designed so that great play allows you to “beat” the course but not to dismantle the set up. I want to see the best in the world have to truly grind to “beat” the course over 4 days. I want to see who has the mental toughness to adapt and adjust and to persevere. Unfortunately, the USGA went a. It to far to try to achieve that outcome. But as a spectator I will say that the event was well well done and that’s Shinnecock is a great venue to spectate.

Also, I have to comment on the eye candy at the event. Damn. High class modelesque women all over the place. We stayed in SouthHampton Village and the local women there were per capita as good as being in Miami. I would highly recommend anyone go and stay in the Hamptons when it returns in 8 years. Very fun trip.

They're playing our version of St. Andrews. I love watching the "pros" play that course. A little comeuppance is good for the soul occasionally.

Except for the fact that the average winning score to par at St. Andrews for the last seven Open Championships played there has been 14-under. The two are nothing alike.

USGA explained it perfectly.

This.

They push these courses to the edge of death every year. Especially greens. They can't predict the wind perfectly. If a nearby shower pops up and breeze is worse they are screwed. Too much sun, they're screwed because they cook.

Saw a putt yesterday. Johnson I am pretty sure. Just an average good miss, to kick in range. But when the ball stopped it rolled backward one entire revolution.

The terminator Henrik Stenson was offered a bottle of water by usga official on saturday and declined it, telling him to use it on greens instead

The entire point of golf is to shoot par, not to shoot -8 everyday. Most PGA events are really just about who putts better and sinks birdies. I'd rather watch players struggle and be challenged to hit small spots because they're supposed to be able to do that.

The point of golf is most definitely not to have a putt that should stop within 4 or 5 feet from the hole roll 50 feet away and off the green.

I agree with your basic point, but anyone who say the clip of Scott Piercy's putt yesterday knows the USGA screwed up.

Exactly. See my point above Piercy's putt.

The main point of setting up a golf course is that great shots are not punished, great shots were being punished yesterday. The course was tough but fair early in the week and yesterday afternoon it turned into clown golf.

I enjoyed the earlier rounds, especially watching DJ tear up a tough course. But yesterday became a joke.

I'm blaming the USGA for setting up the course like they did. The wind is supposed to toughen up the course, not overly manipulated greens. You get wind with ridiculous greens and it turned into clown golf.

Shinnecock is a great course, sad that the USGA is so incompetent in setting it up.
