ESPN: Lakers can’t get Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker

Trade won’t be finalized until 7/6, FA starts on 7/1, and AD won’t waive his $4m trade kicker. WTF is Pelinka doing?
Posted on 6/16/19 at 10:34 am to LSUneaux
They could have if the Pels would defer the trade to July 30
Which they won’t. I thought given the pick haul that was a given.

Why are those dates relevant?
Also it’s prob better to not waste all their cap space on another all star. Better to get a couple good people

apparently with the Pelicans not deferring the trade to the 30th means the Lakers can't sign another max contract player

Agreed. I overreacted.
I didn’t wait for details. That’s my bad. As more details came out it became more apparent that it was the best deal we can possibly expect given the situation.
Mea culpa.

Dumb. If they are signing a max free agent it needs to be done before the AD trade is finalized. I guarantee AD waives his trade kicked. ESPN is really stupid

This makes me happy, but can we get a link?

You guys are desperate and stupid.
The Lakers want to wait till July 6th so they can get another +10 million in cap space. They need to wait because they wouldn't even have the cap space.
If they did the trade now it would hurt them.
The Pelicans benefit with this as well because it opens up another 4 to 5 million in cap space for them.
Again, damn you guys are desperate and stupid.

Pelican fans must struggle with comprehension.
Best part about this thread is the premature victory and celebration on the first three posts.

Woj reported it on ESPN so no link yet.
If the trade goes through on the 6th, Lakers will have 28M in cap space, 24M if Davis doesn't waive his trade kicker.
If it went through on the 30th, the Lakers would open up the 3rd max slot.

If executed 7/6, LAL can get $27.7M cap room if AD waives $4.1M trade bonus; enough for 25% max (e.g. DLo).
If executed after 7/30, LAL can get $32.5M cap room (and AD could keep his bonus); 30% max range (e.g., Kemba, Kawhi, etc).
