I actually don’t mind the Texans branding. There is precedent with the Dallas Texans name.

If you had to create them from scratch, what names would you pick? Or branding style? Just curious...

Among the names were the Apollos, Stallions, Wildcatters, Bobcats and Texans.

I hope one day the Titans and Texans can make an agreement like the Pels and Hornets.

Houston needs to be the Oilers.

It would be like Seattle getting an NBA team back and not naming them the Sonics

Roughnecks and only slightly change the color scheme of the oilers

These were the names we had to choose from

Apollos, Bobcats, Challengers, Colt 45's, Energy, Hurricanes, Roughnecks, Roughriders, Roustabouts, Stallions, Stormcats, Texans, Texians, Toros, Wildcats, Wildcatters, and Wranglers.

Bob McNair has stopped this sort of thing for years.

NFL won't cooperate with filmmakers

you'd think it would be the Adams family,,,but no, the
McNairs hates the popularity of the Oilers in Houston

Wouldn't this type of film reinforce the hatred for the Oilers and pump up support for the Texans and McNair?

No if the truth were told in the story it would show how the NFL screwed over Houston despite it being a team that had been long supported in this city

McNair hates any memory of luv you blue .run & shoot because people remember how good those teams used to be

kinda highlights the simple fact the Texans have never had a team as good as exciting for as much of a love fest with the city

Here's the thing for those of us that were paying attention at the time Bud Adams wanted to win

the Oilers won the first 2 AFL championship and a large part of the AFL success was Adams and Hunt spending money to get players from the NFL / College , Billy cannon from LSU a perfect example

but Adams also bailed out the New York Titans when that team was gonna fail financially. Perhaps he was too quick to make changes so if he didn't make the right hiring decision with the GM or head coach it didn't work but as you look at the history with BumPhillips & Earl Campbell or signing Warren Moon and hiring Hugh Campbell as a head coach out of Canada making the trades and spending the money was something he was willing to do he just wasn't always good at it . (he was Jerry Jones without Jimmy Johnson)He was also a groundbreaker when it came to civil rights,, Check out story behind the first AFL all star game.. racist NewOrleans

but he wanted to win,, the McNairs want to make money and could care less about winning any history of the
OILERS would have to tell that story

This. I liked Wranglers too but it’s too close to the Cowboys.

And he was such a likeable fellow.

We shared the same eye doctor down at Baylor College of Medicine. I was probably in at least 2 waiting room visits when he was there and heard him talking at length in one visit with Vince Young. Everyone in Houston hated his guts and he knew it but I heard he was actually kinda cool. My eye doc said he was actually not a bad guy. I also worked out with a dude that worked for him as a stock/futures trader along with 3 or 4 other guys. His arrangement was Bud would give them money to trade and he would make trades, mostly in oil and gas stuff but also in some dot.com stuff too. Bud stayed in H-town for the most part and only went to Nashville for games.

Not the greatest list of names. All seem to be ‘arena-ish’

historically and thematically Appolos should have been the name keeping with the NASA theme with Astros and Rockets

plus Apollo's had been a hockey team in Houston and the fact that the logo can fall to the space theme but an alternate could be the God, Apollo would have given a lot of options very unique one I think

It's completely paid for and cost 177,000 a year to maintain

and it's been recognized as historical landmark so it can't be torn down without state and federal legislation plus the voters have never voted to tear it down they just did not pass a proposed bond with specific improvements

the past commissioners court passed a comprehensive plan to turn it into 2 levels of underground parking and at ground level maintain it as a venue for shows ,conventions etc. the new judge reversed that decision and now nothing is happening with it

the thing that doesn't get talked about is when the NFL Texan/rodeo negotiated the terms on NRG stadium it is a super friendly lease arrangement that forces the County to maintain it consistent with stadia built 10 years before 10 years after
that means when the new stadium that was built up to 10 years after NRG gets improvement the County has to upgrade NRG stadium at the same level

meaning the whole complex is the real burden on the taxpayers and they don't benefit from any of the profits another way the McNairs are real assholes

the same bond that allowed for NRG to be built dictates that no taxpayer dollars can be spent to maintain it so the County is limited to using beds on heads, OR tourism surcharge $$ tp pay for it. Well after a year like 2020 there is no tourism dollars for any major city in the County cannot by law spend property tax dollars or bond dollars the astrodome plan that was underway would make more than enough money to pay for the upkeep of NRG

but Judge Lina has made plenty of bad decision this one is hardly noticed

Bud Adams is the worst and it’s an absolute travesty the city of Houston wasn’t allowed to keep the Oilers name and unis.

Loved going to the Astrodome when I was a kid.

Bud Adams wanted to play Vince Young because they kept losing. Finally the coach put him in, and they won a game, hence the bird flipping. I thought that moment was hilarious more than anything.

And it was against the Bills right above the Frank Wycheck sign

I heard a rumor one time that Steve Wynn was gonna make a deal with the city and turn the Astrodome into the worlds 5th largest casino/resort if they could get the state of Texas to reform some gambling laws. You ever heard that before? I heard this from a dude that’s one of Wynns facilities maintenance directors at his properties.
