I heard a rumor one time that Steve Wynn was gonna make a deal with the city and turn the Astrodome into the worlds 5th largest casino/resort if they could get the state of Texas to reform some gambling laws. You ever heard that before? I heard this from a dude that’s one of Wynns facilities maintenance directors at his properties.

lol

no

neither was the water park , an indoor Astroworld or flooding it and having boat races

part of the bond agreement not to hold sporting events in it

way too expensive to try to turn it into a hotel all the plumbing Ac to individuals rooms etc

plus the state of Texas is never gonna pass casino gambling in our lifetime and the City of Houston has nothing to do with the Astrodome

Owl, I could swear I read something over the years that there was still a chance Bud would reconsider, but the guy he had repping him locked him into such a shitty deal with Nashville that he had no choice. Is that accurate?

the Oilers weren't coming back while Bud was alive

then Houston shocked everybody by getting the expansion team when they all thought LA was going to get it

a colleague of mine was working directly with the McNair and we're driving around on Election Day in an RV when he got the call that Houston had won the bid
I was happy at the time regret mcnair ever getting the bid now

Sorry...I didn’t phrase the scenario right. I mean before they actually moved. I read that he was going to back out of the Nashville deal as he truly did not want to leave Houston, but essentially the guy that negotiated left him unable to do so.

Bob Lanier the Mayor of Houston at the time and a politically powerful man hated Adams

The Texans is so cheesy. It’s like a bad arena football name and brand. If they could somehow get the Oilers back, they’d be much better off. It’s freaking Houston Texas. Oilers are about as Texas and The Cowboys. They could just get the name and logo back. Keep the colors and let Tennessee have the oilers colors.

Absolutely. I had just moved to Houston when all the chaos was going on about the new stadium that Adams wanted. It also didn’t help that the media hated Bud too. I was a die hard life long fan, even having grown up in SW La, so them leaving was crushing.

Btw, the guy I was trying to think of that handled all the details was Mike McClure.

If you haven’t read it, there is a great book called Oiler Blues that chronicles the history of the team.

100% agree and I bet 100% of Texans fans would agree. Wish it could get done.
