Jose Canseco tore up his elbow throwing knuckle balls in relief pitching appearance. Think he had to get Tommy John.

Let that sink in...he was making huge money towards the end of his As contract.

Eta..correction, he was with the rangers and ....

quote:

Date: May 29, 1993 [1]

Team: Texas Rangers (playing against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park) [1]

Situation: The Rangers were trailing in a blowout loss when outfielder/designated hitter Jose Canseco volunteered to pitch the final inning to save the bullpen. [1, 2]

The Injury: Canseco felt a twinge in his elbow during the appearance. Though he returned to playing as a hitter for a short period, the arm discomfort worsened, and further throws aggravated the damage. [1, 2, 3]

Former Auburn DE Craig Sanders broke his dick having sex a few days before a game in the 2010-2013 timeframe.

Finau popped it back into place and played the Masters tournament in 2018. He didn't withdraw.

ETA: Malcolm Mitchell tore his ACL celebrating Todd Gurley's 75 yard TD run at Clemson in 2013. Gurley strained his quad muscle on the run and missed the rest of the 1st half.

Another vote for head butting Gus Frerotte who did it during a televised game, no less.

I think the Mich St player who returned the game winning blocked punt against Michigan had a Bo Jasckson-like career ending injury after his teammates piled on him in the endzone.

Wasn’t Adrian McPherson hit by the mascot’s golf cart before a Saints preseason game and forced to miss it?

In HS we had a kid run into the goalpost and knock himself cold during pass catching drills.

Not the most gruesome but embarrassing. In 2002, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Marty Cordova missed a few games after falling asleep in a tanning bed and suffering a severe facial sunburn

Bill Gramatica tearing his ACL celebrating a 1st quarter kick.

They didn't call them the Flying Gramatica's for nothing

ETA: It was Bill and already mentioned, as I expected
