The messenger sucks, but it's about time someone called out Bilas for his hypocrisy. I don't remember him offering to give up his salary or quit calling games when he was incessantly railing about players not getting paid.

THIS. He used to constantly complain about people getting rich while the players made nothing. Meanwhile, his bank account was ground zero for that “injustice”. Self righteous whiner.

It’s kept star players from being stuck at places like UW-Milwaukee… now they can play more easily on the big stages their talents earned them

Why should UW-Milwaukee be punished for taking a chance on and developing this hypothetical player?

Most of these guys are getting paid boatloads of cash to transfer to other schools well before they have “great” careers. Bilas is earning his

I don’t know enough about Bilas to defend him. I don’t even know what Doug said.

I just cannot stand that guy. I’m confident he’s 99th percentile annoying to be around.

Is it punishment when you just can’t afford something?

Not making the players employees

How do you "make" players employees with NIL being completely legal?

And you can't just have CFB and MBB "employees"
You'll have to pay men and women's sports the same because of Title IX.Not feasible

You make them employees by hiring them. That’s the only way the schools can have enforceable contracts.

As far as title IX, it needs to go the frick away

No way

You had 30-40 freshman who would declare per year… still had your 3rd/4th year guys that waited their turns and developed…

Now
You have 90% of the roster turning over… you can’t get invested now bc of that.

College basketball was wrecked long before NIL/free portal movement came along. One and done torpedoed the game a while ago.

This. Scrap one and done, make them sign contracts to help temper player movement. Id love to have players sign for a three year stint but probably all fantasy. I miss the days when you knew players and teams grew together.

NIL is just sponsorship. Have individual sponsorships ruined the NFL, NBA, or MLB?

LOL! Are you really comparing what NIL has become to pro sports "sponsorship" deals?

Not remotely close.

It’s exactly the same. It’s payment for who you are and what you mean for the organization paying you. And it’s all outside your employers salary.
