re: Does anyone seriously believe Fernando Mendoza is going to be a great NFL QB?

He was only at Indiana for one season.
No doubt he had a great season. But so did Indiana's transfer QB the year before, Kurtis Rourke (though Mendoza's was better).

I think he's the best NFL qb prospect we've seen in some time.
That's probably a big stretch. Most evaluators have said that if this were the 2024 draft he would, at best, be the 4th highest rated QB prospect behind Williams, Daniels, and Maye.
Still, the Raiders need a QB and he is the best QB prospect in this class by far...so it's worth a shot to take him regardless of how strong you feel about him or not.

I’m not saying he’s a lock. But Mendoza is closer to Burrow out of college than McCarthy.
Very similar to Burrow but with more mobility.

Yep. Burrow only had 2k more passing yards and 19 more TDs. Very close to the same last college seasons before getting drafted.

Troll thread at 12:30 in the morning. Insomnia's a bitch.
Not one single person has answered my question, if he’s an actual NFL talent, why didn’t Indiana ever trust him to throw the ball on 3rd down? They knew his skillset was limited and didn’t ask him to do very much at all with his arm during their playoff run

but there’s no way I’m taking him with the #1 overall pick
okay so who would you take then?
I know the Raiders signed Kirk Cousins but he's a bridge QB at this point.
I'm so fricking tired of people saying how next year's class is going to be epic or some shite like that. There are no guarantees.

There will be 5-6 first round qb's next year. Possibly 7-8.

On the season before the National Championship, on 3rd and 8+, he was 23/32 71.8% - 7TD, 1INT
CCG v. tOSU he was 7/10, 112 yards on 3rd down
v. Alabama he was 5/6 on 3rd down for 121 yards and 2TDs
v. Oregon he went 17/20 for 177 yards and 5TD in a 5 score blowout. It was a near perfect game for him, they went 11/14 on 3rd down. He completed conversions on the first two 3rd downs of the game, on the third, a 3rd and 8, he scrambled out of the gun for 21 yards, and on the fourth he was sacked. On the 5th 3rd down, up 28-7, they threw, he converted, and then on the same drive, threw again on 3rd and goal from the 2 — TD.
Miami had an elite Defense and Indiana struggled as a team on 3rd down, going 6/16. He also had the option to throw on his 4th down run that won the game, depending on the coverage, but saw an alley and made a legendary play with his feet.
You’re a retard and don’t have a clue. You think they didn't trust him, but put the ball in his hands on 4th and 5 against an elite D when a chip shot field goal puts them up 6 with 9:00 remaining.
Guy was elite on 3rd down all season. Indiana was committed to a balanced attack.

Right, and anything can happen in the upcoming college season. Two or three of those QB's could shite the bed and have a bad season.
Plus, there is no guarantee which team will pick in a certain order. I never understood the people who always had next year's draft already figured out.
Did you guys pull a Marty mother fricking McFly and use a time machine and go buy a Sports Almanac while you're at it?

I just went through the play by play in the fourth quarter.
Indiana ran seven plays on third or fourth down. On those seven plays, Mendoza passed five time with three completions and three first downs. He had one touchdown carry on a fourth down and he handed the ball off one time on a third down.
So, what the hell are you talking about?

He will go number 1. NFL GM's get stupid regarding qb's. If Dante Moore had come out this season, he would be a top 10 pick.

I'd be embarrassed if I compared JJ to Mendoza. JJ's weaknesses were highlighted throughout the draft process and (so far) proven right. There's no hype train for Mendoza, but still it's the Raiders. They are a mess all over that's going to need three years of good drafting and free agency to even be relevant again.
JJ was never a guy who could make his teammates better. Mendoza might, but I could see him as a top 16 by year 3.

They were 14th in total defense. 25th in scoring primarily because their offense was so bad they turned it over 23 times, 14 in their own territory. Rookie corner played well.
They went out and added another really good DE and a few really good Linebackers.
They have good pieces on offense, 3 legit OL now with Lindy at center leading the line, who might be the best run blocking center in football. Dominant center at Iowa, Rimington, PFF hero, unanimous AA who was a day 1 NFL starter and is coming into his prime after making 3 pro bowls in his first 4 years.
Bowers and Jeanty are good young pieces.
They’re not 3 years away by any stretch with those pieces. Need WR and secondary help.

I will as well, nobody in the league is scared of Mendoza’s arm. Third leg is just cherry picking stats from 1 quarter to support his opinion, try looking at the entire game. Mendoza isn’t a top 30 QB in the league and my point was that taking him at #1 is insane. If I’m the Raiders I take another position of need or trade out of the pick and wait for next year’s QB class

Who cares if he is any good in the NFL? I’m a college fan and he was a stud in college and won the highest awards possible. I don’t care who drafts him or how he plays because his college career is over.

I literally called before their 1st B1G game and said he’d win the heisman/was a lock to be the #1 pick

This is an internet message board and my entire post was about how he projects to the NFL and how I think it’s insane he’s going to get drafted #1. This is an open forum where people have discussions
