Nowitzki was in awe of James’ athleticism this far in his career.

“It’s tremendous that he can still play like this in Year 20. His athleticism is incredible, and I’m happy for him,” Nowitzki said.

He even went a step further, weighing in on the GOAT debate.

“I always say Michael Jordan is the GOAT, but if James surpasses Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with the scoring record, I’m sort of running out of arguments for Michael,” Nowitzki added.

wonder what dirk would think if MJ hadn't spent 3 years of his youth in college and was putting up stats in the NBA instead?

It’s because the mavs beat lebron in the finals. Self serving take is self serving.

Lebron could finish with about 10,000 more points, 5,000 more rebounds and 5,000 more assists that MJ.

He will be 1st in points, top 5 in assists, and probably top 25 in rebounds when he retires.

You will be able to add Bob Cousy's stats to MJ's to equal Lebrons if Lebron plays three more years.

The sustained excellence from Lebron is amazing.

So he wins the longevity award. Yay.

MJ is still the GOAT

5 LeBron's beat 5 Jordan's every time they play.

5 Lebron's beat 5 Kobe's in a shutout because non of the 5 Kobe's would pass to the other Kobe.

Going straight to the NBA isnt for everyone. Some players need longer to develop. If anything that favors lebron

Kareem played half of his career without the 3point line.

The league didn’t shoot 3pointers like that. He took 3 for his career. LeBron has attempted 6359 as of today.

The breaking of this record is of lesser significance than when Kareem broke it in 84.

Not LeBrons fault, just the nature of change.

If a 4 pointer is ever invented, it will be the same for LeBrons new record.

Dirks statement only reflects his era, and is indeed self serving.

There's definitely something to be said for longevity, but total points doesn't make one the GOAT. That's a silly thing for Dirk to say.

LeBron is a great talent, but he has not led a team as dominant as almost any of the Bulls championships, despite having better top tier talent around him in each one. He also has had the advantage of historically awful Eastern conference in his time for the beull of his career.

The East was a juggernaut in Jordan’s time.

Further, he has 3 legit titles and the Mickey Mouse one.

Scoring titles are a stupid metric given the changes in the game.

I still he ace LeBron behind Magic too. LeBron is a physical freak, but let’s not act like he is playing in any way in the same type of league now that Jordan and others played in from 90s and earlier.

You breathe on a player now and they get a foul call.

You wonder what Dirk would think if MJ was as good as Lebron was at 18, is that your argument FOR MJ?
