I'm pushing 50. Rice is the best football player I've ever seen.

The podcast where Edelman talks about going to Jerry’s house and playing with his Super Bowl rings is hysterical.

Thinking about Moss calling him Edelnut with that country accent is hilarious

Even in his prime he ran maybe a 4.6 40. By the time he was 40 it couldn't have been any faster than 4.7 and he still tore secondaries up. I'm 40 and what he was able to do at that age was just superhuman

It makes me laugh when they say someone’s career is over bc they’re too old at 34. Dudes played into their late late 30’s and early 40’s back then. They could def do it now if given the opportunity.

With those ages comes a higher minimum salary… and older guys have to produce more to play up to it

The GOAT… by a mile… hated him growing up bc the 49ers would always kill my Saints, but gotta give credit where it’s due

When they got together to vote on nominees, I can’t recall who it was… but he said his speech to nominate Jerry went like this…

He stood up and said, “Jerry Rice,” and sat down.

He was like my 3rd WR that year everyone made fun of me for drafting such an old guy.

Being a WR is so much more than 40 time. It’s about lateral speed of changing of direction while running routes but at the same time not telegraphing that. If you watch old tapes, Rice route running was a nightmare to cover as a db.

In 1987 Rice had 22 receiving TDs . . . In 12 games played.

If there is a Mount Rushmore or all time football greats, Jerry Rice is both on it and somehow underrated. He had no peer during his career, and his records largely look untouchable despite the league shifting everything to benefit the passing game.

. I don't if he dominates today's DBs ...because of guys like him the modern cornerbacks are usually the best athletes on the team (WR debatable)... a lot of the guys Jerry went against would be safeties or OLB in todays game

Jerry was never the fastest, biggest, quickest, etc. He routinely made guys much more athletic than him look silly. He was just a master at his craft.

That, and Jerry Rice kept himself in phenomenal shape. Word is his 40 was probably more like 4.55, but still, irrelevant. That’s in shorts and a t-shirt like the dudes who were clocked sub-4.4.

But in the 4th Q of game, having to wear pads and a helmet, those sub 4.4 guys were gassed and JR is still just breathing through his nose. Must have been those Breathe Right strips!

I'd still take Randy Moss or Lawrence Taylor over Rice any day.
