It was sarcasm. Nobody would be getting all worked up about the suggestion of him being sent down if he wasn’t the GOAT of LSU baseball

I still can’t believe there was a debate between him and Skenes for first pick

James Wood seems to have no problems in the majors and he came up at the same time

True but Wood also spent more time in the minors.

Correct. Surprised no one caught that until now. Apples to oranges comparison

Sensitive much? I think this is OP point. And it’s a good one. Crews will hopefully figure it out, but perhaps more time to develop in AAA would have been beneficial to his development.

Not sure why the criticism of the question.

Thing about Crews is that he hit .256 with a .735 OPS in AA and had a .265 BA with a .795 OPS in AAA. He wasn't doing anything special in the minors and the Nationals aren't contenders in win-now mode. They're just using up the service time of player who isn't quite ready for no reason at all.

Yeah, I remember thinking the same when they called him up. I think both times those numbers were skewed by slow starts. So he kinda heated up at the end. But stats aren’t as meaningful when they’re looking to see if a prospect is ready anyways. I guess whatever those metrics are, he hit them. And I guess they’re seeing something that makes them feel fine figuring this out with the big league club. Orrrr maybe the nationals are idiots. Idk

I do know that the Cubs have a big time prospect named Matt Shaw that was in the same class as crews. He started the season in MLB & struggled. But when his struggle equated to an elevated contact rate and a complete loss of EV, they knew he was just trying to survive each AB. That was the tell that he needed to go down & get right. So there’s “good struggle” & “bad struggle”

If Jacob Young can keep a roster spot, Crews will have no problem staying on the roster.

Or Josh Bell. He’s one of the 10 players that has a lower ops+ than crews lol

It’s not about keeping a roster spot, it’s about maximizing the potential and return on a player with the ceiling of Crews. It’s definitely fair to question whether him being in the majors is the best for his development when he wasn’t exactly tearing up the minors.

Comparing his situation to a 4th/5th OF like Jacob Young is irrelevant

Right, at some point you gotta start worrying about the mental part and bad habits developed while trying to make something happen each AB. I’m guessing they still like what they see from that standpoint…you know, cause they’re the professionals…buuuut it’s getting a tad questionable lol

This is a crazy statement to make about a guy who as he pointed out, has played in 70 career MLB games, and is slashing .198/.261/.331 in those games. You don't win MVP's by being somewhat fast and making diving catches.
