This info started going around today, lots of articles talking about it, people are all flabbergasted because that would have made her one of the highest paid employees in the entire company of 6,000 people. I'd love to hear what her ex-coworkers are saying right about now.

Not sure why that number shocks people when you see the contracts ESPN is dishing out to their newsbreakers like Schefter, Woj, Shams, etc.
Russini was the #2 behind Schefter at ESPN at the time she left for the Athletic.

In terms of making money, was she actually worth that much in additional revenue?
The only sane reason you'd pay someone 800k is if you genuinely thought they were going to generate more than that in additional profit.
Are people really subscribing to the Athletic in droves because of this one particular tart?

I have no idea, but my point is that they paid to pull her away from ESPN.

All of these newsbreaking positions are dumb.

The practice is definitely dumb because they are all just mouthpieces for the teams they are breaking news on.
Unfortunately, the public at large eats their shite up which is why they are getting the money that they do.

Yea I really dont understand why or the value. Youll find out eventually anyways.

It's the allure of feeling like you're on the inside, which is complete and utter bullshite.
It's why I question that sanity of people who pay for recruiting subscriptions. None of those people are actually uncovering anything on their own, rather they are just telling the story that they are being fed by the school and/or recruit to control the narrative.

I don't get it either. I don't think people are reading much beyond the tweet. Is anyone running to subscribe at the NYT because of some trade news?

And because her mouthpiece was working overtime for the inside scoop, she received the bigger contract

Higher than I would’ve guessed but I don’t think it’s all that shocking coming out of the media/podcast boom. Guessing she probably got a lot of performance bonuses from the athletic podcast she did with Chase Daniel that’s a part of that and they were competing with her pulling from espn or going independent or another place like barstool or the ringer. The salaries at those companies would probably make you do a spit take for guys who have much less recognition and background than Russini did before signing there
NYTs as a whole isn’t a business model that really makes money and the athletics whole business model is to overpay for talent in order to buy legitimacy given they are a relatively new news organization

Most likely answer. If she was fricking for information, she was definitely fricking for money.

Damn, no wonder Britt McHenry was so pissed.
Russini giving better head cost her millions.
