I have zero hate for Wilder although I think calling him the most feared puncher in boxing history might be a stretch. (Joe Louis, Sonny Liston. George Foreman, Ernie Shavers and Mike Tyson say “Hey.”) And he had a compelling story, beat most of the people placed in front of him and achieved much.

But when you keep GTFKO and you are 38, it’s time to go to the house.

Was it because his African king themed walkout costume was too heavy?

There is no way in hell ANY of Jake or Logan Paul's fights should have qualified for PPV status.

Hell if I know, but almost all legit PPV streams involve well known fighters with good to great credentials in the ring. Most of them are title fights or very high ranking fighters in their particular weight class, not some u-tube wanna-be just milking the system and gullible people.

Wilder landed 9 punches in 3 rounds.

He allowed Zhang to continually just walk him down - Zhang isn't exactly high work rate himself - and looked scared to throw the right.

Similar thing happened to AJ ever since the Ruiz loss but he seems to have finally got his confidence back, but at 38 Wilder should hang it up. The ring must be a very lonely place when you are too scared to get hit that you don't hit the man infront of you.

He got rocked by a 40 year old looking Chinese guy. It's definitely time to wrap it up. He did have a nice run though in his peak.

To be fair, the 40 yr old chinese dude is pretty good.

On the boxing forum I mentioned someone made a good point, that Wilder’s lack of an extensive amateur background is showing because if his big punch isn’t working he really doesn’t have anything else in his arsenal to fall back on.

He definitely looked to struggle with the southpaw, but I don't think his lack of an amateur background is/was the issue.

Naturally he would have a better boxing IQ etc, but he was literally scared to throw it imo, there were openings where he could have landed it and he didn't.

I mean that's pretty evident in everything he does in the ring, which is loading up the right hand waiting for the opp to smash.

To be fair to him, it's worked plenty in his career.

Zhang isn’t a bad fighter

I think that's an understatement. He's as good of a heavyweight as there is in the world for 6 rounds. Heaviest hands in the division right now.

Absolute truth. But sometimes you run into the wall. The great ones like Ali knew how to improvise and get past it. It's obvious Wilder doesn't.

Ali adapted his entire career. When he fought Sonny Liston the first time for the title he used his hand and foot speed to totally frustrate him into quitting on his stool. Ali was given absolutely no chance in that fight, but won anyway.

Fast forward to his title fight against George Foreman and once again Ali is given absolutely no chance of winning with many thinking Ali could be seriously hurt. In that fight he employed his now famous "Rope-a-Dope" strategy and let Foreman punch himself out before KO'ing Big George to win back the Heavyweight Title the final time.

Wilder, on the other hand only has one plan------punch the opponent with the right hand and try to render them unconscious. His boxing skill set is that of a rank amateur and even with all the fights he has had, it's not improved much over time. His footwork only got marginally better but he still made huge mistakes in the ring that made it easier for opponents to make contact if they could absorb that right hand.
