How did you come up with this headline when the article says nothing about cancer or coaching in 2025?

Deion does everything in Deion fashion. Perhaps this was the most efficient way to reinforce his health and put rumors to rest, perhaps not. But if the choice was boring written PR statement and press conference with lots of lead time for buzz, which do you think Deion Sanders would choose?

I'm glad he's doing well. I find him ridiculous, but I don't want his dramatic storyline/potential glory/flame out to have anything to do with health.

That Hugh press conference was a month after it was announced and part of first spring practice presser. And it was like the third question asked. Don’t think this is the same.

To the other poster, Hugh in the hospital bed was not cancer.

I do. At least I think I do

People, especially older people, remember Deion from his playing days. All the flashiness and the shite talking, coupled with the fact that he played with the falcons and 49ers means that a lot of people around this board already didn’t like him (lots of saints fans on this board).

Then on the other side of the coin, you have people like ystar and dj30, etc who are convinced people don’t like Deion because, and only because he’s black, which turns it into a never ending cycle of internet arguing and posturing.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between the two sides. I don’t think people hate on Deion because he’s black. I think people hate on Deion because he’s gone about this entire thing his own way, which is way different than anything anybody has ever seen before on the D1 level.. but you have agitators who take this and run with it because they think it’s a racism thing.

It’s absurd in my opinion. How can you claim a certain person is racist for hating on Deion, when you can almost guarantee they are cheering on black people who play for their own team? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me

This is such a simple view of the world

There are actual legit Klan members who cheer hard as shite for their college football teams

Thinking someone can’t be racist because “they cheer for them in sports” is very naive

A principle theory of many racists are blacks are very good for sports but they are intellectually inferior beings

People have argued that whites marry blacks as it's a new age form of slavery.

If the black players aren’t outspoken, then the people you describe are likely satisfied with the players. If they are, then sadly all hell breaks loose. And I’d say that it’s more of a racial thing than being outright racist, which is still problematic in its own right.

I’ve always thought the adoration for John Daly is strange too. He is a wreck of an alcoholic that squandered talent due to laziness

Yet he is not only forgiven, he is praised for it. I’ll get downvoted to hell but if a talented as hell black athlete did the same thing I don’t think it’s praised by the same people

Is that racism, or just how human nature can sometimes be?

It’s human nature to an extent. People like to root for people that look like them, nothing inherently wrong or nefarious with that.

And there are a lot of shite head racists too.

A lot of people still LOVE Mike Tyson and he is a complete trainwreck of a human being. Convicted of rape, bit off Hollyfield's ear after being released from prison, kicked out of boxing for awhile, threatened to eat Lennox Lewis' children in Memphis, etc. People still love him

People like John Daly because he's a cartoon character and was an elite golfer while looking like a complete redneck slob. His antics were entertaining and still are.

What do you mean by racial vs. racist?

That Deion (and potentially other black players) are more likely to market/brand themselves in a different "outspoken" way and white fans like the more subtle less "outspoken" manner of doing so that is often seen with white athletes?

If so, I think you're correct (or at least hitting on the most "racial" aspect of the Deion thing), although I'm not sure it's problematic.

And do you think it’s the same people?

That’s my point. I think there is a very large contingent of people that think “John Daly is awesome man” aren’t too keen on Mike

I think there is a reason too. White people can relate to the “redneck” caricature of Daly

It’s not necessarily racism. But we have gotten to the point we either think everyone is a racist or we have to pretend race and how we judge people due to race doesn’t exist at all

It’s become a complete either or scenario. No grey (pardon the pun)

After taking over a 1-11 team? Seams pretty good. Saban was 12-11 his first two years at Michigan State. BK was 10-12 his first two seasons at Bowling Green.

Neither coach had open and free transfers to fill out their rosters nor did either have NIL as an option.

You cannot compare coaches that actually coached up teams with limited talent and MSU on probation when Saban got there to a Colorado’s situation.
