Sure, I totally believe that the middle linebacker at Notre Dame chose to have a 3 year relationship that involved falling asleep several times while talking with a chick that he had never met because the relationship was so strong. It's also totally believable that when he found out she was dying he never made it a point to visit her or even attend the funeral. Makes perfect sense!!

It is implied here, from dad, that Manti told this to dad. If not, then dad is lying. But that in itself proves dad was in on it.

Again, I'd bet that story was completely a product of the Notre Dame sports publicity department, and is one of the reasons they're so desperate to fling bullshite everywhere they can -- to obfuscate their very deliberate part in pushing the story for his Heisman campaign.

Big difference. I think Manti was stood up and was embarrassed so he lied to his Dad and told him that they had met up in those places. I don't think he ever expected these stories to be known by anyone else but his dad.
As opposed to Manti coming up with these stories to further perpetrate the relationship in the media/public.
