Rosenthal put this in an article today:

They continue to "pay really close attention" to the Rays' starters, sources s

Interesting

ETA: Also tweeted this:

One more thought on Encarnacion: If his price drops, #Astros theoretically could jump back in. Encarnacion 1B, Beltran DH, Gurriel LF.

Sounds like that's just Rosenthal speculating. Can't see us adding EE after the Beltran signing.

There's one main reason we would now sign EE, and nobody here would like it.

Yeah I'm not down with trading either Bregman or Springer at all, especially Bregman.

It’s possible the Astros will add an ace-caliber pitcher via trade this offseason, but it’s not going to come at the expense of 22-year-old infielder Alex Bregman. Astros executives are telling teams that there’s “no chance” Bregman will go anywhere, reports ESPN’s Buster Olney (Insider required and recommended). That’s hardly a surprise, as Bregman is controllable through the 2022 season and has been resoundingly successful since the Astros took him second overall in the 2015 draft. After racing through the minors, Bregman thrived in his first taste of big league action this past season and now looks like the Astros’ long-term solution at third base.

Agreed. A change of scenery back to Houston could do wonders for him.

Alright baws. The goal for this week's meetings is a TOR starter and a reliever (preferably a LHP)

After that, let's call it an offseason and get ready for spring ball.

Preparing for the melt when Arlington signs Edwin. They need a first baseman. His list of suitors has shrunk. That's my prediction.

I think he goes to Cleveland, but I told my Rangers friends yesterday I wouldn't be surprised if Texas is connected to EE at some point.

And away we go...

Maybe so. They have shown interest in resigning Napoli and by all reports he wants a 3 year deal. So if it costs $15mm per year for 3 years to sign Napoli, I can't see them not looking hard at EE for 4/5 years at $23-25MM instead. But it isn't my money, so it's easy for me to say that
