Rangers could be an interesting match.
I would hate because it makes the Rangers even stronger.
Would love it because I think it would absolutely make Ryno have the hershey squirts in his pants daily until next September.
ETA: damn, too late.

Just saw on MLBTR that the Astros are dangling Fiers in addition to McHugh and Gattis. Will be interesting to see what goes down this week (if anything)

LOL so a giant pile of trash we're dangling and expecting something in return? Colin Mchugh is garbage. I dont care how many innings he eats, he gets rocked, that game with baltimore was unreal, it was like BP. Gattis is a low average power hitter, those are a dime a dozen, remember chris carter? Fiers has value, he's young, he strikes people out, i hope we can keep him as a 4/5. I would give away mchugh for almost anything else. I still cry thinking that mchugh started a major deciding game 5 for us against the royals with a shot at the ALCS on the line.
I know alot of you love springer, but man if the white sox would take springer + gattis + mchugh for sale Id do it in a heartbeat and laugh all the way to the bank. With our lineup aoki would be a better leadoff man than springer.

Springer for sale is dumb. You are trading a 5 war player for another 5 war player. How does that make you better?
Posted on 12/5/16 at 10:44 am to dabigfella
McHugh is more valuable than dumpster Fiers

bc its not all about your advanced metrics. Having an ace who can throw a shutout everytime he hits the mound in a 5 and 7 game series is more valuable than an outfielder who strikes out nearly 200x a season.
would you rather chris sale or collin mcchugh on the mound for that 2015 game 5 at kansas city?

Having Chris Sale doesn't guarantee winning playoff games. Plenty of top pitchers haven't performed well in the playoffs.
Trading Springer + top prospects is dumb as frick.

nothing on the planet guarantees anything in the playoffs, but if you think george springer is the type of player that wins you championships vs a bonafide ace who is 27 years old then I dont know what to tell you. Ya kershaw hasnt won anything, but id take kershaw over bryce harper too. You can always pitch around a hitter, you cant avoid an ace pitching multiple games in a series.
also wtf george springer is nothing special he hits .260 and struck out 180 times last year, whats the obsession?

Well he was the 4th best offensive RF last year, the 3rd best by fWAR, plays damn good defense, but zomg he strikes out a little too much. Also the Astros were 5th in the AL in ERA last year so although starting pitching isn't a strength of this team I'm not sure where the narrative that our pitching is a disaster. Our 2 best starters didn't pitch in August and September. They should be back and healthy this year.

Can't see us adding EE after the Beltran signing.
And since we are speculating, let's be ok with that.....
Eric Hosmer is a FA in 2017.

The White Sox are rebuilding. They aren't trading Sale for a guy who will be 28 next year as the prize of the trade. They'd probably want Springer...and Martes and Kyle Tucker. Gattis and McHugh do nothing for them.

That's like saying the patriots have a top 3 defense bc they do based on points allowed, but their defense is nowhere near top 3 this year. If you want to go into the playoffs with a rotation last season of keuchel, mchugh, fiers, mccullers(injured) and think thats all we need this year without any improvement while our lineup is solid 1-9 now I dont know what to tell you. McCullers is an ace when he's healthy, Keuchel is a stud if he bounces back, but what do we have 3-5 thats worth a shite? We can withstand losing george's production in the lineup with a ton of other bats, but we cannot beat anyone in the playoffs starting mchugh, fiers thats a fact.

On Encarnacion: Sources who familiar with him says Rangers could be an interesting match. Market leverage for EE appears to be dropping.
These the same sources that said he was signing with Houston last week?
Posted on 12/5/16 at 11:14 am to Prominentwon
The source is his agent trying to scare Houston in jumping back in by making it look like TX is on him

Let me be clear that I'm not saying we shouldn't try to improve the rotation. But dealing one of the best players from our major league roster is not the way we should do it. Then our outfield is just as suspect as it was last year, if not more so (assuming Beltran is majority DH). You rag on Mchugh but he's an adequate #4 starter. I'm fine with putting together a package of prospects for Sale, but subtracting value from one position on our team to add value to another isn't the answer.

Finished 5 games out of the WC and wasn't eliminated until the collapse in the last week of the season. I've said it the entire time, that this team had no business being in contention that late if the pitching was a dumpster fire like it's perceived.
In reality, where did the issue lie and put them behind the 8 ball? The "awful" pitching or the black hole that was 5-9 in the lineup for probably more than half the year?
I'm not saying the pitching was infallible whatsoever. But were they really that terrible over the long run?
What are we looking at as far as progression in 2017? We are basing what we know right now by going with Kuechel, McHugh, McCullers, Fiers, and Morton.
Are we lumping in Musgrove? Devenski? I thought I read that they wanted to push him to be a starter?
Would love to have a SP, but does it break our 2017 season? I'm not really sure that it does.
Posted on 12/5/16 at 11:26 am to Prominentwon
Musgrove will most likely be in the rotation and he showed some serious flashes last year. Developing consistency is key for him and I think he can do it.
I expect Devo to stay in the 'pen unless he can get a lot better with his 3rd pitch (curve). Likewise for Feliz (change up).
Martes could be ready to come up mid season. Nobody was impressed with Paulino's start but he only pitched 3 or 4 games in AAA before coming up. There is potential.

My thing is look, we have this small window to win. Can we really re-sign springer, altuve, correa long term and if not which ones are we choosing? Id assume altuve and correa. So if we're going to lose springer anyway in a couple years, why not make a push now and get our ace. Kyle Tucker,Daz Cameron,Martes, they may all turn out to be studs, but what good does that do us, if our championship window is closed. I love springer i think he's a great ballplayer, Im just being realistic that we aren't retaining our entire core, and I imagine he's the one we dont retain.
