Can we talk about Wade Miley.

What the hell happened to him?

I’ve never seen anyone have a season like his.

He went into a September 5 matchup with an ERA under 3, then couldn’t get 1 out in the game against the lowly Mariners.

I wish we got to keep Cole instead of him going to the Yankees, but with that insane amount of money, it's not the end of the world. They aren't beating us anyway.

Their rotation is insane now, and they are the clear WS favorite on paper, if healthy. Would be funny if he regresses to what he was before he came here though, and if we somehow can hold them off and win the ALCS over their asses, again.

By my math, their payroll currently is 20 million above everyone else now just after the Cole deal. That's going to be some serious luxury tax penalties.

Whitley will take up the slack.

I’d hope we go all in on villain status and pass out mini trash cans and drum sticks after the win. Taubs would have been all in on that

Cole will see what its like having a slub behind the plate in Sanchez my early models have him at an era around 5 next season boys.

The rise of Whitley always had its casualties

I am not sure that he fully regresses but it is not that far fetched to think he may have peaked. He also won't have Strom anymore either. Many a pitcher has gone to the Yankees and failed and Cole does have a tendency to give up homers and runs in clumps around his strikeouts. That is A LOT of money for any one pitcher.

When do you guys think Whitley will be called up? With his suspension, injuries, and his inconsistencies last year, I would expect him to probably be up late in 2020, correct?

Depends on who they pick up before the season. I could see him breaking camp with the #5 spot in the rotation.

ETA: Yankees rotation is now incredible. But I’ll be laughing my arse off in 4 years when that contract is an anchor on the organization.

Think it depends on the off season. As of now rotation looks like this

GOATlander
Greinke
LMJ (innings limit given post TJ)
Urquidy
Peacock

In all honesty a lot of clubs would kill to have that. Whitley had a very strong Arizona fall league and if that carries over to spring and triple A id expect mid season call up to give lance some time off. And down the stretch lance to come back and bump peacock out.

With that said I expect we go dumpster diving again and pull out a solid undervalued starter to relieve the pressure on urquidy Whitley and post tj lance

Yeah I think it’s a guarantee we have an outside addition to that group who’s locked into a rotation spot

They'll add someone else this offseason to be the #5.

Whitley to be called up after the super 2 deadline... unless there is no need at that point, but he'll be up at some point. Even if no one gets hurt LMJ will need to have innings limited.

Ideally I'd think we'd want a bargain starter to bump Peacock to the pen and one other veteran arm who can give us some length out the pen or make spot starts, like Peacock.

Soooooo apparently Peter Gammons says the Correa/Reddick for Castillo trade rumors are true and that the Astros would then sign Rendon if it goes through.

Trade Reddick/Correa for Castillo & sign Rendon?

That would be a damn near perfect off season
