He was 3 years away from being able to negotiate a deal on the open market vs now actually being on the open market

It’s a poor reference point for his current value

Perceived current value VS actual current value.

He doesn’t exactly have a bunch of GMs creaming their tightie whities to sign him at 6/$200MM.

My point, I actually believe what the Astros offered was very fair, cut in pay, or not.

They know Bregman is fixated on not taking "a pay cut" so they offer him just a little less AAV than he made last year. The Astros have given Bregman what turned out to be his best offer, knowing he likely won't bite. Now, he's looking like an arrogant idiot for not taking it.

Yep, this is totally another Boras miss. I even heard a whole MLB network segment a few days ago about how badly he read the market for Bregman and Alonso. He's just not good and for every Juan Soto he has half a dozen Bregmans, Alonsos, Keuchels, and Correas. Correa actually got the best deal out of this bunch and it still wasn't much better than the Astros. Do others start to notice how badly Boras is doing with many clients or do they succumb to their own vanity and believe everything he says even though he continues to miss?

Knowing how Bregman feels about baseball overall, I'm sure he's not happy about being only 2 weeks away from spring training and without a home.

So does Hall of Famer, Craig Biggio.

Obviously, Altuve will be just fine in the outfield. Not much difference between he and Alvarez. Alvarez is gonna kill himself out there, but he can throw. Tuve can run pretty well, but who knows where that ball will go.

Tuve is really bad at 2nd. Almost certainly will be bad in left field. But there may be less frequent exposure to his bad defense in left.

The bad part of his left field defense will be challenges on his arm. Runners are gonna challenge him on a throw home, runners are gonna challenge him to throw a strike from left to 2nd. I see lots of additional bases being taken on him.

We know Altuve still thinks he can play like he did 10 years ago. He will bite and try to make that throw every time. Look what he does trying to steal 3rd. Difference is that he used to be able to steal 3rd. He was never able to make that throw!

Is it me or is this not a confidence inspiring route? Looks like he takes a flat angle and ends up having to make a stretched running snag.

And these are just shag balls. Hit slow and high. I wanna see him (or I don't) react to a screaming piss missile.

I suspect he'll be fine with everything except that weak arm but it's a small price to pay for the return of the Bregman popups.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there's a lot of catches made at the wall with an outstretched arm, maybe even requiring a slight leap.

Tuve ain't getting any of those, maybe even to a point that he plays some off the wall that could have been caught, which with his arm is not going to hold runners from going to second

Just a bad idea that to me makes any overpay on Bregman a bad move.

You know my thoughts on the subject.

I am curious to see if Altuve will be playing more shallow or deeper than average. I assume he'll want you use his straight-line speed to his advantage somehow.

The reality is, the Astros want him out there sooner than later. Seeing more mentions that Brice Matthews may be best served at second base fits with that line of thinking.

Saw an article yesterday covering what we discussed Saturday in regards to getting Pressly to waive his NTC

Paid him the difference in taxes as a bonus as I was told

I'm really looking forward to LS's next outing.

Him not being that fast anymore is one of several reasons why I don’t like it

Dauer slipped and injured his head the night before Houston’s championship parade that year. While the severity of the injury initially wasn’t clear, his condition worsened during the parade. Dauer was taken to the emergency room, where doctors identified a significant brain bleed. He required emergency surgery that came with a grim prognosis but overcame what doctors eventually revealed was around a 3% survival chance. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic covered the story at the time. Dauer had already decided to retire from coaching before the head injury, but he returned to Minute Maid Park the following April for an emotional first pitch.

Dude was a fighter.
