Explain to me exactly how a deal with Bregman works financially, trading Paredes, and even if it’s a 1 year deal

How does that affect the cap?

This has to be lip service to fans that don’t get it, I would think, right?

Wtf is happening today

I’m out of pocket for a few hours and Tuve is moving to LF and Pressly trade is imminent yet he hasn’t waived his NTC

Yeah if we have the money to sign Bregman why aren’t we using it for an OF instead

Someone mentioned if we sign Bregs:

Bregs stays at 3B, Paredes to 2B, Altuve to LF. Not sure how to feel about that

Think that’s just Boob Nightengale spouting bs

It’s a laughable idea

I’d think there’s a lip service aspect as well as Boras wanting to make it appear like there’s several options on the table for leverage. There is no way they bring Bregman back, even if it collapses to an expensive one year deal I would think

There’s been more than one report that he has basically been in a standoff with Detroit over the contract and they don’t want to budge (probably because they know they hold all the cards and aren’t stupid)

Boston and Toronto are the other teams he’s been seriously connected to. Boston is still out there I guess (perhaps the other “serious offer”) but there is the issue of moving Devers to first base, which he supposedly doesn’t want to do

I’m sure Toronto is out once the Alonso deal is finalized, which is supposed to be very close. Boras also reps Alonso, so I don’t think the timing of the Astros interest in Bregman today is a coincidence with that in mind.

trading Paredes

For my part, I hope we don't dump Paredes to bring back a comparable and significantly more expensive player in Bregman. Zips projections are out today and they project Paredes at a slightly higher WAR than Bregman. Really similar projected numbers across the board for them with Paredes grading out slightly better

This feels like Cranewell shenanigans again. I bet they're like, "heyyyyy, we can get Bregman back on a good deal, Dana."

Meanwhile, Brown is wishing he still had his condo in Buckhead.

yep. we need to deal Pressly, add the best OF we can, and call it an offseason.

Now, if Dana can make lemonade out of this shite, it would be impressive.

Let's say Bregman re-signs. Would Brown be able to craft a deal with Boston for an outfielder like Wilyer Abreu? I suspect the Red Sox might have some interest in Paredes. Why? They need a right-handed power bat as much as we need a left-handed hitting outfielder.

If Altuve doesn’t go down as an all time greatest Astro then I hope the franchise folds.

If that’s true it just shows what a legend Jose is but him playing LF is silly. In the wild scenario it were a thing, they’d have to get more comfortable with Yordan playing LF a decent amount and rotating him and Tuve at DH

Of course as we already know, Espada said the plan is for Yordan to play less in the field which most would support to keep him healthy

Jose is the type of guy that would probably spend hours everyday practicing too. Maybe we could pull it off at home but cmon what about when we play in parks like Detroit, Minnesota, SF, etc

It’s not realistic

The only scenario that includes signing Bregman will have Paredes being used in a deal to acquire an MLB ready OF, and even that won’t satisfy staying under cap

And you lose the compensation pick for Bregman too,
