The most powerful person in the Astros organization is Dusty Baker.
How many GMs are coming to the Astros for a short term deal that includes fighting with Dusty Baker?
Dusty is like an anchor that the organization has to drag along, but they've done a great job of it so far.
There are still only 30 GM jobs, and guys will jump at the chance to inherit this roster, regardless of the other BS. Dusty is still nothing more than an old fool. A strong leader will be able to handle him better than Click did. I think Crane knows that too.

A name to watch for the Astros, Scott Sharp from the Royals. He is Sr. Vice President/Assistant GM for KC.

Jim Crane is slowly turning into the Jerry Jones of baseball.

The Astros GM would be 4th in the pecking order:
1. Dusty Baker
2. Jim Crane
3. Jim Crane's son
4. The GM

The Houston Astros also fired assistant general manager Scott Powers, sources told ESPN. Powers was a former R&D executive with the Dodgers who was brought in as an AGM by James Click in January. Now Click and Powers are gone from the World Series champions on the same day.

Damn Crane must already have a guy he wants

Wonder what he did to piss off Dusty?

Let's hope Crane doesn't f this up
Crane's cheap arse definitely won't be opening up the pocketbooks either
Let Springer walk, let Correa walk, Verlander won't be back.
Altuve and Bregman nearing the end of their time in Houston as well.
Pena will be a stud and a lot of young pitching that will be commanding premium dollars when they hit free agency.
The starting pitching and bullpen was the difference this World Series.

None of these is/would be an indictment of his ownership cred.

Crane is tight with Verlander. I’m more worried Crane gives him a contract with such a high AAV that we can’t address any other needs.

WTF are you talking about? Crane has been many things, but he has not been cheap.
He paid for Verlander -- twice.
He got extensions for Altuve, Bregman and Alvarez.
He's made a damned good offer for Correa.
No, he has not been cheap.

They have 9th/10th highest payroll in baseball. He’s not spending with the top dogs, but he’s not cheap either.

They’ve won two World Series in six years. However it gets done, cheap or not cheap, keeping a GM or firing him, keeping FODB or firing him, listening or not listening to Bagwell, Cabell, Reggie, etc., keep doing it. I’ll take 2 World titles in 6 years any time.
I have zero complaints with Crane at this time. He is strategic in spending money, and that’s fine when you go get Verlander and Greinke at the deadline and extend key players at key moments of their careers (Altuve, Bregman, Alvarez). Sign me up.

I don’t like Dusty Baker but they won a title. He earned the right to come back and as a fan I’m willing to tolerate him for another year. Championships are a great deodorant. I have no complaints right now.

Passan and Rosenthal can melt but I don’t see why we need to. If he makes a solid hire, all is well.

Same. I’m still too mentally exhausted from last Saturday to give much thought to next year. Back to focused on LSU winning the West
