It was about the length of the contract for sure. I guess the writing was on the wall but it’s still surprising. As long as they get someone cut from a similar mold and background as Click and Luhnow were I don’t think it’s a huge deal at all

We all knew it was either Click or FODB, so there it is. They offered a world series winning gm a one year contract.

Clickwas not really qualified for this role when he was hired but it didn't call for much given the state of the organizational talent. He did fine. Not great. Barry Switzer wonna SB.

Yeah. Only thing he really did was the trades and that's a big MEH. This year was Mancini and t-ball Smith. Got Vaz but Dusty didn't use him much.

Luhnow built the thing. Click didn’t screw it up. He seemed like just a guy, not THE guy. Certainly, not irreplaceable.

Getting Smith was more about dumping Stinky's contract than anything else.
The Mancini and Vaxquez deals looked good on paper, it's not Click's fault that Dusty didn't know how to use them or that Mancini went into an unbustable slump.

One thing is for sure. This off-season Dusty, Bagwell and Reggie Jackson will be choosing any free agent pursuits.

The most powerful person in the Astros organization is Dusty Baker.
How many GMs are coming to the Astros for a short term deal that includes fighting with Dusty Baker?

Can they hire Luhnow back?

Click wasn't that great. A B minus IMO. They can and will do better.

I think a really lot of those media guys do hate us. They hate Houston in general (the city, not the team) and Texas even more. I believe they hate seeing anything successful from our part of the world. Did any of you read any Phillie reddit? They often talked about our "ugly swamp city" and our "parking lot with no zoning", our politics, etc.
Interestingly, we have huge parades and events and most of the time don't riots or issues. Hell, we didn't even have many problems when they had the George Floyd protests, etc. We have good jobs, cheaper housing than most, mostly decent schools, and a population that generally like each other and mostly gets along with each other. We are mostly nice and polite. A whole lot of the country hates us for all these things.

Pretty much.

Can y’all imagine Luhnow trying to work with Dusty?

I'm pretty annoyed with Crane over this whole mess. He seems determined to keep us in the villian role. Essentially firing your GM less than a week after winning a World Series is a completely unforced error and the media will eat that shite up about what a chaotic organization Crane runs.
He's gonna frick around and get a reputation as a difficult meddling owner and nobody worth a damn is going to want to work for him. You can bet that in executive circles, theyre already talking about Dusty pulling an end around on Click to get Crane to veto a trade. No GM worth his salt is going to want to work in an environment where the field manager has the owners ear to dictate personnel operations.

Has a general manager ever been not asked back after a WS win?
What the hell are we doing?

Yeah, Crane is dumb as a hammer for this. Bad look

I think it hasn’t happened in over 50 years.

Houston #Astros GM James Click actually was fired. He was offered a one-year contract and raise from his $1 million salary on Monday, turned it down in pursuit of a longer contract, and was dismissed Friday after publicly airing his grievances at the GM meetings.

Can you fire someone not under contract?
Either way I agree, Crane is being a dumbass but if he can get a good GM to replace Crabe it’s a moot point
