The Pena negotiations are going to be a great test of whether Crane is still a serious owner. If we don’t re-sign Pena then wahoocs and Ryno’s boner to rebuild to relive the 2011-14 glory days doesn’t really matter in the long run if we aren’t going to retain talent.

That model of rebuilding doesn't exist any longer. You have to trade valuable MLB assetts and hit on the return, draft and develop at a high level and spend money when its time.

We've gotten pretty lucky in the replacement category haven't we?
Let Springer go and Tucker was ready to make a step up to impact players
Let Correa walk and Peña comes in Rookie of the year and world series MVP
Let Cole go and Framber coming off a 5.86 ERA in 2019 becomes a co-ace
JVs dominance in Houston ends and Hunter Brown has stepped up to fill the role JV used to
Trade Tucker and Cam Smith, though not filing Tucks production, looks like a solid major leaguer.
Let Bregman go and Paredes has really given us similar production at a fractional cost.
We've really been lucky to hit on all of the replacements for stars we didnt retain.

A lot more than just luck involved

Crane needs to stop being a donkey when it comes to long-term contracts. Go ahead and sign a cornerstone guy when he's young to a very long contract until he's 36 rather than ending up filling a need by signing a 34-year old where you get the arse-end of their career production.

The first Altuve extension , Bregman, Yordan. All of these were bargains relative to what they could have gotten on the market. $105 for Pena was likely a value.
I feel like Altuve's compensation has been fair and he has produced and is still producing enough. Bregman was overpaid the last 2 years. Yordan has had 2 knee surgeries and missed for an assortment of ailments.
Look at LMJ and Javier. It seems every deal they sign backfires.
Who would argue that the JV deal worked out to our benefit. Either one of them. Because a lot of Greinke deal was paid by them, I think you could argue he was worth what was spent, but Abreu and Walker? The list goes on

This lineup reeks of dirty a-hole

Our DH has a .920 OPS. Feels like old times.

I think I had all of these updates in my weekly recap yesterday but in case you missed it:

Have y'all noticed since Chandy slayed the organization for their lack of injury clarity, they've been putting out these injury progress reports?

He’s got to read these threads right?

It was right after the Yordan fiasco Chandler I think did both an Athletic article and a podcast just slamming the Astros for how shitty they are with being transparent on injuries, injury updates etc.
It wasnt long after that the team started providing weekly injury updates like this. Its not a lot. Other teams still provide more transparency. But it certainly was a change that they weren't doing before.

I will be honest, I don’t give a single frick as a fan about them being transparent with injuries.
I do care about them clearly mishandling the recovery from and diagnosis of them, costing them wins. Yordan (this year, probably more than that), Tucker, at least a couple of the TJ recoveries, I’m sure there’s more

Altuve is good about making me look like an arse when I bitch about him, so I’ll go ahead and do so…woof.

Gotta admit with this pitching matchup I did not anticipate us ever having the lead
Posted on 6/25/25 at 7:41 pm to 5 Deep
I never wavered in my faith in Gordon to get the upper hand in a pitcher's duel against one of baseball's elite right-handers.

These ABs we’re seeing are drastically improved
