Verlander won't be the TOR guy we need unless some kind of mega deal takes place that involves JD Martinez, Musgrove, Bregman, Tucker, et al
I just don't see it happening, but I will say I trust Luhnow to do his due diligence. He has shown the ability to identify useful, necessary pieces during his off seasons and drafts.
Let's hope he includes a deadline deal to that list.

Astros reliever Jandel Gustave underwent UCL reconstruction surgery on his right elbow this morning in Houston. He's out for the season.
So he won't be a factor again until 2019. Bummer.

I hope he doesn't ultimately need surgery... if he comes back right after the all star break and still has issues, he'd be out for all of next year. That would most likely end his time with the Astros.

He's done. Don't count on him.

There's a difference between being done and you wanting him to be done.

Fiers' transformation the past few starts has been amazing. Thanks Lance.
I'm afraid Gray might be another Kazmir..do not want. Seeing deGrom's name made it move until I realized how much it would cost.
I looked up Mark Appel's numbers. 5-3 with a 5.03 ERA. From his game logs he either gives up 1/2 runs in 5/6 innings or gets bombed.

More than ever lunhow is going to wait it out. No deal will get done before the deadline. No need to overpay for marginal upgrades. If you go then go big to make yourself a tougher out in the playoffs. See if Cole keeps up the improvement

I'd give up Martes and Tucker or Fisher + Paulino and some other lower level prospects for him.

Also, not really Astros related but thought it was a cool story.
I'm sure some of you heard Ben McDonald talking about his rookie year when Cal Ripken called all of his pitches from SS.
That's amazing

Yeah, Aiken has never got his velocity back. Throwing in the high 80s, he's what 2 years out from TJ?
People around baseball liked to shite on Luhnow/Astros for their decision, but clearly it was the right one and we dodged a huge bullet in the rebuild process. That pick netted us our starting 3B

THIS DATE IN ASTROS HISTORY
June 21
2003 - Rodrigo Rosario wins his big league debut as Houston holds on for a 9-5 victory, their second straight win against the cross-state rival Texas Rangers. Craig Biggio starts the game with his 32nd career leadoff homer. Richard Hidalgo and Jeff Bagwell also go deep. Houston moves past Chicago into first place in the Central Division, one win ahead of the Cubs and the Cardinals.
2001 - In Enron Field fashion, the Astros belt five home runs and lose to the Reds, 8-7, in eleven innings. Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell and Richard Hidalgo go deep in a four-run first. Lance Berkman adds four hits and two homers. Cincinnati smacks four long balls of their own but mere singles produce the game-winner.
1992 - Pete Incaviglia slams a two-run shot while Butch Henry and Doug Jones combine to blank the Dodgers for a 2-0 victory. The series sweep sees Los Angeles held scoreless for 24 consecutive innings. Jones notches his 16th save of the season.
1973 - Lee May belts three home runs as Houston puts a 12-2 hurt on the Padres . May's three bombs net five runs. Tommy Helms socks a grand slam for four more while Cesar Cedeno contributes a solo shot. Ken Forsch picks up the complete game victory although he allows Dave Winfield's first big league homer.
1964 - The Colts spank the Milwaukee Braves, 5-2 and 5-4, to complete a four-game sweep. Rusty Staub is the opening-game star with four hits, including two home runs. Pitcher Ken Johnson and outfielder Joe Gaines go deep in the nightcap. Bob Lillis picks up five hits in the twinbill. In addition, the team signs high-school phenom Larry Dierker.

Our man Chris Carter is wasting his life playing anywhere other than Coors Field.
Looking at some scores and I see Mark Reynolds playing for the Rockies hit his 18th home run and is batting .302 for the season. Mark Reynolds.
since the Rockies signed him he's hitting like .320 at home and .260 on the road.
