I’d say he already is. Only thing left is to prop up the counting stats.
And win another ring, of course.

Apparently, Altuve has spent his offseason doing some kind of Sammy Sosa/Michael Jackson thing. I wish he would have concentrated on baseball. Screenshot from ESPN.com article:

So Altuve's original 4 year $12.5 million extension he signed in 2013 ultimately turned into 16 years $301 million. Not bad. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Not to mention he'll never have to purchase a meal or buy a beer in this town ever again.
Greatest Astros? yes, and probably sports figure ever for Houston? Who else, Hakeem?

Happy for Altuve, and happy for all of us who are Astros fans. Would suck to see him in another uniform so hopefully this means he finishes his career with the Astros.

Bauer says that no MLB team has offered him a contract.
He said he'd play for league minimum.
What the hell are you waiting for Dana Brown?

While I think he's every bit worth league minimum and then some, just not sure I would chance the clubhouse over it
If the team voted it, sure
This team is too close to having a chance to win it all over adding a big distraction
FTR, I don't give a shite about the PR side of it. He would fit right in on that front

Astros general manager Dana Brown, speaking Thursday at a luncheon at Minute Maid Park to preview Spring Training, said the team plans to make an offer to Bregman, but said there is no timetable to do so. Brown and Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, talked face to face about Bregman on Wednesday prior to a press conference in Houston to announce the Altuve deal.
If we know anything about Crane, it's not going to be an open market competitive offer. Look at the extensions that have been signed/rumored...
Altuve
Bregman
Yordan
Correa
Springer
All were below what they either got or could have gotten on the open market. So what's that look like for a 30 year old Bregman? Crane maxed out at 5/$165M for a 27 year old Correa. I'd guess they offer about 5 years to Bregman too.

He’s worth Altuve money and term. I get he’s younger, but he is a dead pull power hitter and can’t decide what he wants to be
He is definitely a better fielder at his position and has better plate discipline, but he gives his bat control away in exchange for the power numbers (i.e. a contract player)
He fits the Springer-Correa mould to a tee
He doesn’t give any indication that a team friendly deal is a possibility. I’m not mad at him. Still a fan. Hope he does his part in winning a championship this year before he puts an opposing team behind the 8 ball with a market deal

Bring in the "team leaders" and Espada and work everything out or discuss the possibility and the potential lockerroom distractions. Not like the media could hate the Astros anymore than they already do.

This will be an unpopular opinion on here, but the Astros will win the 2024 World Series. It will happen.

The PECOTA and Fangraphs are both pretty bullish on the team. Both projecting them to win the division and 95-97 games.

Now we know how the Astros can afford the Altuve extension:
Astros and Nationals sold the name to the Spring Training field they share.
