Witt is 6 years

Which is why I don't think Bregman gets 10 years.

plays a different position

Understood, but today's contracts are mostly about WAR and offensive metrics. I think Bregman and Witt comp closer in value than Bregman and Chapman.

Bregman is not getting 10 years. Witt had 4 years of club control left, is significant younger and is a shortstop. I’m not sure you can glean anything from his deal to apply to what Bregman will want.

Depending on what he does this year he will want more than Chapman gets but it’s still a good marker for what his deal will look like.

Right. But he has stated (and his agent) that he wants. 10 year deal.

So, realistically what can he expect now? Last year’s market was absurd for the mega contracts dished out.

This year things seem much more reasonable. (Two Japanese guys excluded.)

Will he get a full 6 years? Seems like a 5 year with 2 option years would be. Good deal for him.

Video of Jeremy Pena’s off season workout.

Twitter-X link to video

I may have to renew my JP man crush membership. The dude just comes across as so likable.

Interesting that he mentions that he has changed his swing.

Will he ever hit another home run?

Interestingly he actually wasn't a bad hitter during his power outage. In Aygust and September, he hit .310 with a .378OBP and had a 9% walk rate. So it's like he has 2 sides, he can play for power with low average and strike out a ton. Or he can hit for average but keeps the ball on the ground.

Jose Altuve's new contract extension has a $15 million signing bonus. It will pay him $30 million from 2025-27 and $10 million in 2028 and 2029, source tells @TheAthletic. Total value of $125 million.

A very club-friendly deal for the greatest player in Astros history.

I expected this term and amount

Not surprised in the least

I’m prepared to bitch about his declining defense over this term, but always with a loving frame of mind

Really feels good to see something sensical for a change
