Is now a good time to bitch about blackout restrictions too? Because I'm always ready to go on a rant. And I'm sure MLB is tired of getting my emails about it.

Ugh. I'd hate to be lumped in the same boat as that clown. Even though I don't comment as much as I want to, I've been around a lot longer. In fact, I'd say 90% of my posts are to cheer on the Stros. Maybe I'll up my game this season to avoid further confusion.

Brad Peacock has picked up a changeup he saw on Twitter from Trevor Hoffman. It could be a real weapon for him.

A change up, if it's any good, could be a welcome addition for Peacock to pair with his slider.

ETA: looking at his pitch usage on fangraphs, he did have a change up that hes used before but it dropped off to almost nothing last year. In 2017 he threw it at 4.4%, 2018 at 0.4%

@Chandler_Rome
Jeff Luhnow confirmed today the Astros had an agreement in principle to trade for Bryce Harper at last season’s trade deadline.

I don’t think it would have changed anything about how last season ended but it would have been a lot of fun for a few months

One can only imagine the haul that would have taken for a short term rental of that caliber.

It would have been fun to have Harper for a few months but I'm with Shane, I don't think it would have made a difference against the Red Sox. It was mostly our pitching that let us down. Plus with a bum Altuve and Correa, the offense was limited.

I don't think there's any question that a Harper deal would not have been the difference, but I am curious what caused the deal to eventually fall through.

And you can bet whatever the Nationals were willing to accept will be included in the Bumgarner deal this time around.

The report earlier in the offseason said the Nats owner ultimately vetoed it

Nats ownership nixed it. My guess is they felt as though their chances to resign him would sour if they shipped him off somewhere else.

If yall had a chance to catch the Cora special on MLBN, it goes without saying, Cora was just as much instrumental in our WS win in '17 as he was in denying us another in '18.

I would take Cora over Hinch and trade them straight up to start '19.

And that's not to say I can't appreciate what Hinch has done.

i feel pretty confident that if aj was Cora’s bench coach and then moved to Boston, mlbn would have you feeling like AJ was the guy you’d rather have.

Interesting fact about the Astros:

As of right now, the team has only Altuve's new contract as committed salary on the books after the 2020 season.

That's a significant amount of flexibility even with the young stars likely to get bigger and bigger arbitration raises or new deals to mitigate that.

It is flexibility to some degree but as you mention, there's consideration for future contracts. Certainly they'd love to sign Bergman longer term. Correa...hot take, I don't think has proved himself deserving of a mega deal yet. Bregman just had the kind of season that Correa was supposed to be perennially posting. 2017 showed flashes but he got hurt...2018 was underwhelming and then he got hurt again.

I think Springer becomes the odd man out given his age and likely price tag. But if you try to lock up a core of Altuve, Bregman ($60+ million) and Correa, that's possibly $90 million or more a year. We may see short term deals at high cost for Verlander over the next couple years but as far as long term deals for high figures, I think were out on those with Bregs and Correa looming.
