We will have to make a 40 man roster move to accommodate the signing

Yeah... that's the only thing that makes sense.

Unless they have a trade in the works. Marlins need a ton of cheap, serviceable, controllable talent.

Marisnick, Tucker, Fisher, Kemp, and Martes for Yellich?

I actually wouldn't mind this.

It would have to be K Tucker for that to start to work. Otherwise it doesn’t come anywhere close to getting him.

I will probably get blasted for saying this but I wouldn’t hate giving up Kyle Tucker in a deal for Yelich. I feel like Yelich is probably close to Tucker’s ceiling as a player and he’s already there and locked under a very good contract for a while.

Regardless I would be shocked if the Astros got him. It would absolutely require Tucker or Whitley plus other good prospects

The Astros shouldn't even have to think twice before making that move. Absolutely you trade Tucker for Yelich, that's a no-brainer.

If they keep wanting more and more though, at some point you have to pump the brakes.

Well yeah they are not doing it straight up either.

I’m saying I wouldn’t mind Tucker headlining a deal with say Martes Paulino and JD Davis or something like that. I would rather give up Tucker than Whitley esp in a deal for an OF.

Yeah, that's why I said at some point... Tucker being the centerpiece shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Agreed. And I would be perfectly fine holding on to Tucker because I think he will be really good. But Yelich is a situation where it would make some sense to deal Tucker if that's who they wanted, since Yelich has a great deal, under control for a while, and plays the same position.

The Astros designated for assignment outfielder Preston Tucker to make room for Hector Rondon. They have seven days to trade Tucker or try to pass him through outright waivers.

Back to the Rondon signing. One of the complaints toward the later part of last year is that we lacked depth in the bullpen. Devo was being a bit over used, Harris was injured, Bullpen Joe was still in transition. At the least with Smith and Rondon, we've got some decent depth.

Musgrove
Devo
Rondon
Harris
Giles

As for Rondon himself, I'm intrigued (pour one out for Ashby) even though he wasn't very good last year. He had 2 great season and a good season prior to this year. He throws 95 to 98 on the fastball with a good slider as his strike out pitch. I don't discount Brent Strom's impact and if they could get him back to 14-15 level, we'll have a really good piece in the pen. Worth taking a chance on I guess.

Locks
Giles
Devo
Harris
Peacock
Rondon
Smith
Musgrove (assuming he stays a reliever)

Questionables
Sipp (can/will we get rid of him?)
Gose (no guarantee he sticks)

Fresno —> Houston frequent fliers
Hoyt
Feliz
Martes (later in the year)
Deetz
Guduan
Gustave (when recovered)

That’ll get the job done until July when Dan Duquette finally realizes he should trade Zach Britton.

I do like the bullpen now after the signings of Hector Rendon and Joe Smith, but I still hope we get a left reliever who can come in front of Tony Sipp. What lefty relievers do you think we're going after? Could it be Liriano? And I probably already know the answer to this question after the recent bullpen signings, but do you think we still make a run at Wade Davis or no?
