Brady vs. the Broncos is up there in brutal hits a QB has ever gotten over the course of a game.

Aaron Rodgers did. Nobody had accuracy and strength with a live arm like Rodgers.

It's not an unfair opinion taken in context. He's not a greater qb but in terms of pure ability and position acumen, it's an easy choice. Marino. Line them up side by side in their primes, watch them throw and you never look at Brady twice. Marino was that pure. In fact, using the same parameters, Manning would result in the same conclusion. Roger's and so on. Brady is the GOAT despite that. That's why he's the GOAT.

Yep this has always been the Brady/Manning argument for me. Manning had the more arm talent, Brady is probably a better leader (though that gap narrowed when Manning went to the Broncos, though possibly widened when Brady won a SB with the Bucs).

Elway had the strongest arm I’ve ever seen.

Prime Stafford and Josh Allen are close if not equal.

My issue with Marino is everyone makes every excuse in the world for why he didn’t win more big games - but he played poorly in a lot of those games.

In the 1984 Super Bowl vs. the 49ers, he was 28/50 for 318 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT’s, a 66.9 rating, and the offense scored 16 pts.

In the 1985 AFCCG vs. the Pats (in Miami), he was 20/48, 2 TD’s, 2 INT’s, a 54.9 rating, and the offense scored 14 pts.

In the 1992 AFCCG vs. the Bills (in Miami), he was 22/45, 268 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT’s, a 56.5 rating, and the offense scored 10 pts.

The 1985 Pats and 1992 Bills went on to take two of the biggest arse whippings in Super Bowl history. They weren’t super teams.

These are the three biggest losses of Marino’s NFL career, and he played poorly in all of them. He shares blame too. It wasn’t Marino being flawless and everyone else sucking.

What a lot of people also don’t know is Marino played on some loaded Pitt teams in college. Multiple NFL (not just college, NFL) Hall of Famers, Pro Bowlers, and #1 teams.

The 1980 Pitt team was ranked #4 when they were upset by #11 FSU. The offense scored 22 pts.

The 1981 Pitt team was ranked #1 for the fourth straight week when they lost to #11 Penn State. The offense scored 14 pts.

1982 Pitt team team was.ranked #1 for the second week when they lost to unranked Notre Dame. The offense scored 16 pts.

Marino absolutely had the talent around him to win a national title. And while winning the Super Bowl might have been asking a lot because the NFC was on another level then, he could have at least made it to more than one in the mediocre AFC and played better in the one he did make if he were the superhuman GOAT QB a lot people think he is.

It wasn’t just Shula or Sherrill or the offensive line or the RB or the defense or the waterboy’s fault Marino’s teams lost a lot of crucial games. He played poorly too.

Possible but we'll never know.

Would Marino have won 6 rings with those New England teams and a seventh with Tampa? Would Brady have been ringless with the 80s and 90s Dolphins?

I don't know about that. Some of Namath's passes seemed shot out of a cannon.

True, but how many other qbs played into their 40s? Brady couldn’t be touched the majority of his career. I believe they changed the rules after 08 when he missed the entire season with that knee injury.
so they changed the rules after he already had 3 super bowls and an mvp season?

Arm talent wise, Brady lasted longer than any other qb. No other qb had the zip he did into his 40s

No other QB before Brady got the opportunity to play flag football into their 40s either. Fleeting arm strength was never the older QBs retired, the pummeling they took took them out first. Brady took hits like Bradshaw did he doesn't play past 32.

The game Marino played and the game Brady played hardly resemble each other.

How many yards, TD’s, and wins did Brady collect throwing those TE seam routes that basically would have gotten a man killed in the 70s and 80s?

George Blanda says “hello, I retired at 48,” but he wasn’t a starter the whole time and was also a kicker.

Yes. The franchise bet on Marinos arm alone.

He was a better thrower than anyone, but didn't have the teams that Brady had

When was the last time someone said a WR wasn't afraid to go over the middle?
The days of guys getting blown up by safeties are long gone.
