NEW: Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney shreds officiating across college football:

“In the meantime, we got gambling issues going on, people being suspended, all that kind of stuff, right? Yep. I mean, refs are people too. It ain’t just coaches and players. And if they’re a part of the game, then by God, they ought to be a part of the game, and they ought to be a part of the accountability, and they ought to be a part of the consequences, not just behind some shadowy curtain like no, they ought to have to answer for it.”

I didn't see additional footage, but watching on TV it looked like they hosed on that 4th down PI at the end of the Duke game.

And the SEC has had some TERRIBLE calls this year. Game altering and game deciding terrible calls.

I remember a huge scandal when Tim Donaghy's games were called into question in the NBA.

I don't disagree, but would he be saying it if they weren't having a shitty season?

Exactly.

Refs weren't gambling when he was winning

He's raising a very important issue that sports will need to get in front of but they'll probably just try to shut him up.

Most bad calls aren't gambling related but expect a huge surge in refs working with gamblers to rig outcomes in the near future. Even a little of that can ruin sports.

When you can gamble on everything, everything can be fixed.

Think of how trivially easy it would be to rig a semi-competitive football game and get away with it from an officiating standpoint.

Penalties like holding, pass interference, roughing the passer, all very subjective and very impactful calls you can make or not make all the time. A few of those intentionally called specifically to affect the outcome will almost always decide a close game.

He’s definitely just whining because he lost but he’s 100% right so I’ll allow it

You mean like the blatant pick play he ran to win the Natty?

They weren't hosed at all. For whatever reason ESPN's production booth wouldn't show the first half of that play where the DB who was called for PI held the WR the entire time he was running his route.

Look at the inside slot receiver. That's who draws the flag.

He isn’t wrong.. I’ve watched Auburn get wrecked by officiating this year.

There was absolutely pi on the play that has him all sour if just occurred sooner than when the flag was thrown.

But his overall point is right.

The only thing the officials got wrong on that play was they called it PI when it was actually defensive holding.

Terrell for Clemson was holding him from the time he made a cut and the fall was a result of their getting tangled up during or just after the hold.
The end result was the same.

At least his conference has somewhat transparent video review procedures.
