This will probably hurt them.

Not going to pay money when I can get the same information free elsewhere.

Also talking down to your user base usually doesn't work out too well.

Watch they start charging for their weekly iTunes podcast next. Talking baseball for an hour is hard work.

Fitt is great at what he does but at the same time, he's full of himself.

Yeah, the old no frills website was a perfect scoreboard.

That’s bullshite. They pretty much have no free content anymore either. I’ll do a month around May for tournament time, but there is not enough content or news to justify a year subscription in the off-season.

Anyone have any idea how D1baseball is updating their scores? Are they scraping that data from other sites (automatic process) or are they manually finding the scores and updating them?

I wonder if Chicken provided an area for everyone to update scores in real time if we could start our own scoreboard for sports? Maybe start with just the SEC? Collaborative open source scoreboard? WikiScores?

We could probably take over pretty quick....

Chicken.... Scoredroppings.com???

I pay because I love college baseball and want to support the service they provide.

While they do provide good analysis, charging to just see scores is pretty shitty

a lot of us love college baseball and pay for various services related to the coverage.

Charging people for scores just seems petty and short sided and a good way to turn people off of your brand

Plus, I'm pretty sure they can hire someone to write code that collects scores from around the country rather than manually inputting every score.

for scores that is a bit much but those guys do their homework and they travel to big series throughout the country every weekend

Whoever decided to put their scoreboard behind a paywall is a total fool. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the vast majority of their traffic is from SEC fanbases.

So now instead of going to their site where ads can generate them some revenue we will all simply go to the SEC or NCAA websites where we can get all those scores and stats for free.

if there is a central hub to get updated scores I would write an app real quick that would update scores every so often and charge $1.49 for it (life time charge). if anyoen wants to help figure out how to parse data quickly and easily i would make it happen for iOS and Android.

anyone interested? Money to check for scores is silly. If you figured out that everyone who was coming to check scores wasn't paying a sub then its stupid to think that those same people are gonna now for over $10 just to check those same scores. Whatever people you do get to cross over will be less than the ad revenue from all the page visits.
