I think the counterpoint is that UL may have used it first? I honestly have no idea, and as I stated earlier in the thread I think it's stupid.

I have no clue who used it first, it's irrelevant to what I'm saying.

I’ve seen “Geaux USL” stuff from the 80’s. They probably started using it pretty much around the same time LSU did. Pretty sure LSU wasn’t “nationally recognized” for it back then, considering the football program from 1980 to 2000, with the exception of the ‘87 and ‘96 seasons, was basically irrelevant from a national standpoint.

Well then, I guess what you are saying is even if USL did start using first, since LSU now uses it, the Cajun fans and athletic department should stop. Is that right?

Weird how much some of the LSU fanbase, even after winning a national championship with arguably the best college football season ever, still cares so much was a Sunbelt Conference athletic department in Lafayette is doing.

I have no clue how you arrived at this from reading my posts. It's a message board and I'm participating in conversation. I don't spend much time worrying about the happenings in Lafayette or USL's logo history. Clearly I've done something to upset you

I don't care if UL uses geaux, and I would expect them to.

I just think it's dumb to say LSU shouldn't use it because some LSU fans aren't Cajun at all.

LSU is a Louisiana school, and a mix of Cajun/Creole is the Louisiana culture. The effects of that culture aren't confined to Acadiana and New Orleans.

Never understood why they went away from that. USL actually sounded kinda badass

Literally no one said that in this thread. I just made the argument that it would be absurd if LSU fans wanted UL to stop using "Geaux" because it's more closely related to the culture of the area that UL is located in, versus LSU. That's it. I didn't say that LSU should stop using it (though they should because it's dumb)

I'm not debating about what's more cajun. I don't care about who is more cajun. I didn't even go to school in Louisiana. I have no idea who used it first but I think I'm willing to bet that we started using it before LSU was "nationally recognized" for using it. I could be wrong about that too though. But it's not like it's something we picked up just 10 years ago because we saw LSU getting recognized for it

You’re making some assumptions in your subject line that are incorrect. This is not a recent thing.

ULL is always trying to leach off of LSU. First they claim to be the "University of Louisiana" and now they are stealing "Geaux" from Geaux Tigers. We had it first.

Why yes. A university ACTUALLY located in the heart of Cajun Country stole a CAJUN term from a university from the carpetbag city of Baton Rouge. LOL

Get out of your purple bubble once in a while.

In all seriousness, the term GEAUX has been used by UL(L) for decades. The idea that people have this idea that the term was stolen and that LSU is entitled to this (Baton Rouge isn’t even Cajun) for whatever reason is humorous and ridiculous.

If that’s the case, maybe LSU should retire “Hey Fighting Tiger” since it was taken from a Broadway musical.

. Absolute truth. Tulane should add a throwback uniform to their sports teams line up that says “University of Louisiana” as a way to honor their history and just to piss Lafayette off.
