Sure, the Cubs didn't make the playoffs missing it by a game but let's be real. Nobody predicted the Cubs to be competitive at all this past season.

Not shitting on Counsell but not like Ross was doing that bad of a job. I had my doubts in the past but he wasn't that bad. What's worse is there's no announcement yet that Ross was fired or even moved to the front office.

Ross right now:

This came out of nowhere.

Stealing your division rivals long time, damn good manager, without even a prior announcement that you were firing your manager.

Wow.

I really want the details on this to come out

Rossy basically had a vote of confidence at the end of the season

There's no way he found out in a Jeff Passan tweet.

I would have figured a .500 season would have bought Ross one more season but I suppose you have to strike when the iron's hot. They did the same thing with Renteria but at least there was a press release saying Renteria was fired before hiring Joe Maddon.

Maybe this is a positive sign they're willing to open up the checkbook for a few decent free agents and actually be competitive next season.

I think they can pull it off.

He was really poor at in-game managing decisions. Things that Counsell excels at. Most projections had the Cubs at 90+ wins once the season stats actually played out. Pre-season projections didn't have Bellinger being the player he was or Steele the pitcher he was. The Cubs lost several games on the margins this year which is what this hire is aiming to fix.

This is killing the fans of Milwaukee because Counsell is a Wisconsin native and the city and state has endeared him for decades as family. It's almost like a plot twist in Star Wars where someone flips to the dark side. This will certainly have major impact on his Wisconsin legacy...but then there's the money. Hats off to him, he's deserving of it.

I hope I am completely wrong but giving someone who has made the NLCS 1 time in 9 the largest salary in history is bananas

Bold move, but I respect it. They're trying to win now.

Meanwhile on the South Side, we get to see if Pedro Grifol can top the 101 losses from this season.

This 100% - if you watched the Cubs all year it was a no-brainer. I could get into it pretty deep and detailed but buttom line this was the right move and a great move by the Cubs.

My jaw is still on the floor.

Feel bad for Rossy, but I get the move.

I’ve spent the last decade despising Counsell, so it’ll take some getting used to. One of the best managers in the game.

Now go make serious moves. Don’t operate like the Brewers.

This really makes me feel like the Cubs are going all in this off-season. I'm expecting some big moves now. 2 or more of Ohtani, a Soto trade, an Alonso trade, 1-2 free agent starting pitchers, etc. It'll be disappointing if they piece it together again, and I don't think Counsell went to Chicago for that.

This is a move for Otani

this is ALL IN

David Ross wasn't the greatest manager but he definitely wasn't the worst.

Craig Counsell IS THE BEST

Blowing the series to the DBacks which led them to take our playoff spot and them ending up in the World Series must have really struck a nerve in the front office
