Most HS coaches run the same 12-20 plays over and over and over.

Yeah, in 1990.

It isn't like that anymore. HS offenses are very complex now w/formations, schemes, route combos, etc.

I could go .500 against Pickering, Crescent City, Ringgold, Bolton, Tensas, Plain Dealing, Collegiate of BR, Southwood, Madison Parish, and Comeaux

But question… who am I coaching? Let’s assume I can’t have any kids currently on a HS roster.

Depends on the talent level and the buy in from parents. Could I go .500 at Catholic, West Monroe, Karr, Ruston, STM, Calvary, etc.? I could literally just show up on Friday night and go .500 at those schools. Could I do it at schools with zero talent/buy in? No, I'm not that guy.

The level of ball and roster you have changes a lot.

Am I coaching Single A and have some stud dual threat QB? Then yeah, I can probably even break .500 by a good margin. Am I in a super competitive Texas league where I'm facing a bunch of future D1 guys every week? Probably not.

Only right answer.

Worst part would be teaching class.

Make the best athlete a running QB…

Any who is not legally prohibited from being in the company of minors could. So I could.

Not so sure here but if I could have my son helping me, I would think yes depending on the district I'm in.

I just don't have the behavior quirks to be a head coach. The players wouldn't have anything fun to imitate.

Most kickers are soccer players primarily. You tend to get guys who are playing select soccer year round who can’t make the games or the coaches won’t accept a guy coming in part time just to kick.

I don't care if we have to fly in Garo Yepremian or Toni Fritsch for the games every week. I would get tired of losing by 1 point every Friday because my kicker kept kicking the ball into the center's arse on PAT attempts.

My point was to find someone within the team who is a good athlete who could be trained to kick a football 20 yards. Chad Ochocinquo was a hell of a good kicker and was used as an emergency kicker a couple times.

LSU's Doug Moreau was the tight end and became kicker. I have been friends with Doug for a while through some business dealings and I once asked him how he ended up becoming kicker.

He said that early in fall camp one year (Doug played in the 60's), Coach Mac just asked if anyone wanted to be the kicker. Doug said he and a couple other guys volunteered to try it and Doug won the job. He said he had never kicked before that day. A couple of coaches gave him a few pointers, and he figured out the rest and had a decent career as kicker/tight end.

I agree...but I still see some of the inner-city schools in BR that do not have a kicker at all.

Many of the teams we play in MS have zero kicker. Sucks too, because if they’re good it kind forces our hand into going for 2.

Definitely one of the harder positions to get a scholarship out of high school thought. Probably just end up being PWO + NIL going forward. Its too risky…LSU is going through it right now.

It's because HS kickers generally kick off the tee and not ground. At camps is where kickers get recruited.

Yup. The modern crop of kids were taught never to use a block…so we’ll see how that goes. There can be as many as 500 kickers at a national camp. Both major ranking services offer smaller, invitation only ones as well. Definitely not an easy endeavor.

at 3 of my games there were P5 coaches at those games specifically looking at kickers one hit a 50 yarder from the ground with room to spare.

This is my 26th year coaching recreation sports, not one down of high school. I think I could with a couple of years of learning the difference with a high school staff, 26 years don't mean I could just walk right in and win at hugh school
