He has 133 on the year, needing 130 more to break the record of 262 by ichiro. With 67 games remaining, he would need to average 1.94 hits a game to break it.

Can he do it?

If he gets 2 hits/ game and breaks the record, MVP.

It's possible, but it would be ridiculous.

That seems impossible.

lol is this a joke?

he's averaging 3.93 at bats per game so far this year.

if he continued at that rate, he would need to hit .494 the rest of the season.

some of you stros fans are funny.

He will need a lot of extra inning games.

He's got the right team for it.

No. It's not possible. He- or any other major league player- won't average 1.94 hits a game the remainder of the season.

It's not like there's only three weeks left in the year or something. Averaging 1.94 hits per 4 plate appearances a game means he'd be batting .490 the rest of the season.

He's not going to bat .490 the rest of the season.

Has any player ever done that over 67 games?

Seems unlikely.

For comparison, DiMaggio averaged 1.63 per game during his 56 game hit streak.

to put this stupidity in perspective...

if altuve were to average 1.94 hits per game for the rest of the season, not only would he break the single-season hits record, but he would finish the season with a .413 batting average.

ted williams, watch out!

His contract is such a goddamn bargain. If he were a free agent this offseason he would command so much

Just went back to Boras, he's going to get paid some huge money if he keeps it up.

Yep he will be 29 or 30 when he hits free agency and I could see a team throw 200+ at him if he stays at a level close to current

OP must be answered thus:

"could" yes

but the odds are more likely that the batter is struck by lightning.
