It’s the same reason Lattner made the 92 dream team. He’d been doing team USA stuff for 2 summers prior to the Olympics before they decided to include pros.

I think I see your mistake. You said there were 8 guards selected but there were only 7. Howard and Atkins are not on Team USA. You also completely left off Kahleah Copper
Of the 7 guards, Copper, Ionescu, Gray, and Young all clear Caitlin, imo.
Her competition to make the team were Lloyd, Plum, and Taurasi. I've already put in my post above my argument for the other 3 over Caitlin. Note, if Caitlin made the team over either of the 3 listed, I wouldn't consider it a snub. It's that close.
Again, I'm not arguing that Caitlin was just completely undeserving. But it's a lot closer than you're trying to pretend. You can make a logical argument for any of the 7 guards that made the team. And none of those arguments have anything to do with racism or disliking Caitlin.

It's totally fine to dislike Griner, that's your right. But take politics out of it for a second. Griner is a very accomplished WNBA player. She has done plenty to deserve her spot on the team based on merit, and then some.

I find it funny that 6’9 Griner is catching strays because a guard was left off the team.

No, because who gives a rats arse about it anyway? The WNBA had crappy viewership, then a generational player comes in, the ratings go through the roof, money is now pouring in, yet jealous players who make league minimum despise her because she's white. Tell me I'm broken? If I were her, I'd give the middle finger to the Olympic team. However, she has class, and did the right thing by taking the high road. She's hated because she's straight, white, and doesn't fit the narrative.
