They just opened a $41 million athletics facility.

AAC isn’t taking anyone from a current ESPN network. The mouse is driving it all. They’ll take from MWC and C-USA.
Yep. This is all about ESPN trying to frick over any conference that dared to do a TV deal without them.

RACE is a nice facility, but prior to that their training room and coaches offices were HS level as well. They made the jump to FBS to chase money and to get alumni donations and their level of commitment to their athletic programs before RACE showed that. I have no ill will towards the student athletes or coaches there, but also can say I have been at HS in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, etc. with nicer facilities than the ones below.

It's all about football, and UTSA would be an investment long-term for that.
Someone mentioned Army, and I know they turned the AAC down before because their C-USA experience was a disaster. Maybe with both AF and Navy in it now, they decide to join if asked.

The AAC and the ACC be confusing the mess out of me.
The old Big East intentionally renamed the conference that way to get back at the ACC for destroying their conference.

I don't disagree with that, but when leveraging them against similar programs that would be long-term football investments I think a school like ODU with their investments and a much better MBB program I'd have to give ODU the edge if the AAC wants a project. If they don't want a project then Marshall compliments UAB the best of the possible fourth teams.

Would be interesting if Army gets an offer and decides to come. May never happen, but what if Army/Navy win the AAC championship and have a sure shot at an access bowl only to lose to the other post championship game in the Army-Navy game. Would that have to be a second game between the two OOC? Or does the AAC push Navy back West? What if they do push Navy West again and Army and Navy end up playing back to back weeks? Imagine being a defensive lineman for Memphis or SMU and having a scheduling quirk where you played Army, Navy, and AF in consecutive weeks...

Would AFA be football only?

Sounds like both AFA and Col St will be all sports if the rumors are true.

Navy wants to be in the West. That's why they were there before.

Lol…wut?! MWC is a solid conference & pretty much on par with/ AAC. This will be a dumb move by those schools.

The AAC's TV deal is worth nearly double what the MWC gets.

What's the capacity of that UTSA basketball arena?

Surely ESPN put some sort of get out clause in this. Right?
My question for CSU/Air Force is what if the Big XII adds some combination of SMU, Memphis, USF? Do you still want to be in the American then?
The new playoff format will be a big deal here too. Under the originally proposed one being the sixth best conference would be a big deal, so if that goes through the American may be able to pull all the top MW schools.

So dumb. So they forgo regional rivalries that they have had for decades to travel even further distances to play.... East Carolina, Temple, Tulsa, and Tulane
We’re in the year 2021 bro. This is the way in college football

Who would Mountain West add? UTEP and maybe some FCS schools like Montana and Eastern Washington. I know ESPN 2 is showing their game Saturday.

This is lame, the MWC is one of the few conferences that still had some solid regional rivalries

Hell if I know. It's the wild wild west and black hat ESPN is busy killing anyone that crosses them.
Also don't forget that the WAC has brought back football and plans to move back into FBS within the next 10 years. For all we know at this point the MWC might collapse forcing the remaining teams to eventually go back to the WAC.

Things change. It’s not happening unless they go to 16.
You won’t see any SBC or AAC teams swap conferences. ESPN controls both properties. For them it’s about strengthening their holdings and consolidating the G5 to the G4. With ESPN controlling the top two G5 leagues.
