With a few exceptions, college sports programs as a whole are losing money by the buckets full. In La. look at all the athletic programs across the State. LSU is the only one not being subsidized by State funds. It actually funnels money into the University's checkbook. So, by & large, facilities at the other universities are funded by alums, boosters & corporate sponsors. I.e. hard work at fund raising is what it takes. As an aside, how long will it be before he gets his program in trouble with the NCAA??

I hope Jackson State doesn’t fall victim to Primetime’s last two partnerships with schools.

-and for anyone who want to defend him: Google Prime Prep and Trinity Christian Cedar Hill. If he is still coaching at Jackson State in 3 years (when his son then becomes eligible for NFL) I’ll take a permanent ban from TD.

I wonder if he could call attention to it through the proper channels at the university instead of making it an issue for the media. I don’t know that he went to the media with it himself, but this is a newspaper article with direct quotes from Deion.

I had a spicy twitter interaction with Prime Time about Prime Prep. He took great offense to me saying he was ruining kids futures.

In my defense, at the time (and I don't think this ever changed) the NCAA hadn't accepted a single credit earned at Prime Prep. LSU almost got fricked on Jordan Mickey for basketball because of it.

It’s just a term of endearment that black people use. I don’t think it has the connotations that you’re implying.

Did Deion ever set foot in Jackson before taking that job?

The in-state nickname for Jackson State is “Just Show Up”.

Yea his sons high school team played Madison Ridgeland Academy a couple weeks before he got hired. I assume that’s when he did the interviews. MRA is a private school in MS and beat them. They recruit pretty heavily tho so will have some good athletes every year

Perhaps the city of Madison would let them play at Madison Central facilities. I’ll standby for the downvotes.

Prime’s beef isn’t with JSU and how they’re allocating funds.

I get your point. People pay for what they value, so more dollars are obviously going to flow to the Bama’s and OSU’s of the world and not so much to JSU.

But that’s only part of the story. Much of college football is subsidized, whether that’s through the conferences sharing TV revenue, bowl affiliations, direct revenue sharing with opponents, etc. So Prime has a point here. It’s not like Kansas (for example) is working that much harder or doing that much better on the playing field than a SWAC/FCS team, but their facilities as a P5 program are better by an order of magnitude.

Now, I have no idea what to do about that. But again, Prime has a point here.

The athlete's do deserve decent facilities and legal gear. Neon Dion is doing it right. Get the word out. Get someone to start making calls. Athletic budgets will be hit hard again next year. Fund raising is critical.

JSU has been lousy at drumming up alumni support over the years.

The next step would be to make sure that the money isn't stolen before it's used for the intended purpose. That's been an issue at SWAC schools before.
