Im sorta shocked by it, given everything that has happened with the Fire, and their move to the city.

I don't keep up with MLS - what happened to their stadium in Bridgeport? I delivered to the Quaker Oats warehouse next door to that place pretty frequently through the years - it's still there.

It’s been known for a while now they are moving out of soldier field. It’s a nightmare. Shitty location, looks like shite, hard to maintain. They want out.

Arlington Heights looks like a terrible location. Pretty far out of Chicago. I know that the Bills stadium in Orchard Park looks like a dump after driving by it a few years ago.

I liked how Soldier Field used to have the old retro design with the columns on the inside and outside.

It's been known as the worst playing surface for years as well as it is "maintained" by the City of Chicago parks dept as I recall.

I'd wager far more fans live out in the 'burbs than the city so with all of the other benefits it makes perfect sense to move to Arlington.

Again, i think this is good for Chicago. For most metro cities, having a stadium downtown is a good and economically strong strategy, but for the mega cities in America, almost none of them have football stadiums downtown. Just look at Los Angeles (Inglewood), New York (New Jersey), Dallas (Arlington), San Francisco (Santa Clara) and Boston (Foxborough). All of them are out in the suburbs. The only mega cities with downtown stadiums are Houston and Atlanta. I think this would be a really good move for Chicago. Conversely, i think it would be a really good move for Buffalo to move from the suburbs and build a downtown stadium. Medium sized cities need that economic boost, unlike mega cities.

That doesn’t inherently make it a good thing. It just means that their owners are shitheads who care more about raping fans for $80 parking than they care about delivering an awesome game day experience.

Chicago is one of the best gameday experiences in sports with Soldier Field. If they build some lame mega stadium in the suburbs it will instantly be generic. I hate the idea so much. It would be as bad as the Saints moving to Slidell or something.

I don’t like this plan. Soldier field is in a really safe neighborhood adjacent to all of the touristy stuff in Chicago. As a result, Chicago is very similar to New Orleans in the fact that it’s NFL stadium is super convenient to mass transit, bars, and hotels. If Chicago weren’t so damn inhospitable in February, it would be a regular super bowl host site for that reason.

The only reasons they should want to do this is due to either:
A. A pissing match with the mayor
B. They want to sell the soldier field property to develop a highrise that would make more money

Those are terrible reasons. Soldier Field is one of the few historic stadiums in the NFL, and its location could not be more perfect. The only thing that I would change would be to put a roof over it, but I am sure they like having that home cooked weather come playoff time.

Clearly you aren't from Chicago. It is a traffic/logistical nightmare in its current location. It is a good walk from any public transportation. It is too far to walk from the heart of the loop. Tourists just like it bc they see its located next to the lake. Well you can't see the lake from any spot near the field Not to mention its just not a nice stadium at all. The aerial shot looks cool on sunday night football thats about the only redeeming thing.

The biggest issue tho is that they don't own it. It doesn't make sense for a NFL team to lease its stadium. It's the same reason the Braves left Turner Field.

Won't happen, no private development east of Lake Shore Dr.

There is one high rise east of LSD that was built before (and lead to) the Lakefront Protection Ordinance.

Soldier Field may suck, but I love the location. They should just tear it down and rebuild on the lakefront.

NRG isn't in downtown Houston, it's next to the Astrodome. The other 3 stadiums are downtown.

Both the Braves and the Falcons still lease their respective stadiums.

They've only played there since '71 so it's not like they go way back at that site. They played at Wrigley before that I believe

I should have said it doesn't make sense to lease an old stadium you have the city build you a new one and you own the area around the stadium
