Build your own stadium, Kevin

It ought to be illegal for the Chicago Bears to play in a dome.

Irony is that I believe the Bears are trying to build their own stadium, just in Arlington Heights.
They want to be like Ricketts and the Cubs and control the surrounding area and all that revenue source. Can't do that downtown.

This is what the Braves ownership did as well with the Battery. It’s the model all teams seem to be after now.

When millions in TV, Radio, and ancillary money just aren't enough.

Exactly. The Bears have already said they're putting up the money for the stadium. They've reportedly been trying to finalize logistics and infrastructure details with the state so they can finally break ground on this thing, but the state has basically ignored them.
I'm already seeing Bears fans on social media saying this is an empty threat and just a leverage play. If Illinois politicians believe the same and don't do anything, they'll be in for a rude awakening when Indiana rolls out the red carpet just across the border.

Wish they’d stay downtown on the lake, right by Soldier Field. It’s an incredible view, and I don’t like the overall trend of NFL teams leaving the cities. But it’s awful parking around there, and the walk from the nearest L stop is 15-20 minutes (although I think that can build anticipation). Plus the McCaskeys can’t develop/own the area around the lakefront, which is of course most important to them.
Would say it’s still 95% they go to Arlington Heights (despite this “posturing”), 4% they stay in Chicago, 1% they go to NW Indiana (and .01% they go to Gary specifically).

I think professional sports teams should be forced to use the actual city they are in as their name.
Gotta love those Indiana Bears! Or the Gary Bears!

Jackie Moon will offer season Lions tickets if you can hit a half court shot at a Tropics game.

I don’t think it’s as high as 95% that they go to Arlington, but they’re pushing hard. I think Chicago political machine will do whatever it can to strong arm them into staying in the city and that has always proven to be a tough machine to beat.

Everything I see is the Bears are trying to make all this work. It's the City of Chicago that is the problem.
I want the Bears to stay on the lake, but that will take concessions from the city.
Fully support the Bears building their own stadium in Arlington Heights. They're putting their own money up.

Reminds me of when Tom Benson tried to get leverage during negotiations with the State of Louisiana by leaking an offer from Albuquerque, NM.

Scary Gary? Are you shitting me? That place is a crime-ridden third world shithole that makes Chi-raq look like fricking Tokyo.
Gary literally smells like shite when you drive through it on the Toll Road to get to Chicago from South Bend. It is, without exageration, the worst city I have ever been to or through and my career has had significant travel through Mexico, Central America, and Eastern Europe.

And the crazy thing about it is nobody knew about it until the press conference
The fact the Braves kept it under wraps is still amazing.

There are non-Gary towns in N. Indiana filled with quaint, well-behaved Midwesterners.
A Christmas Story (and the book upon which it was based) were set in Jean Sheperd's hometown of Hammond, IN. But I think Ralphie's old man hated the Bears and ridiculed the so-called monsters of the midway.

Valparaiso is probably the “best” city in NW Indiana in terms of its commuter distance from Chicago
